VARSITY FOOTBALL DEVILS OUTSCORE TRAVEL- LERS IN OPENER. Opening their 1955 gridiron sea- son September Z, against the Gauley B ridge Travellers, the Red Devils launc hed an all out attempt to win. Their effort was not in vai n and the locals came out on top, Z0-6. The fir st Devil score came in the second quarter when Nichols plunged over. Nichols made another TD in the second quarter, and Kania added the third a few plays later. EAST BANK FALLS TO RED AND BLACK. Taking revenge fo r a big defeat last year, the C ollin s High Devils overpowered the East Bank Pioneers on September 10 for a 26-O victory. Thelocals got off to a slow start whenaRed Devil fumbled on the first play. McDaniels made amends, how- ever, when he raced for the first six point talley of the game. STOCO FAILS TO SCORE A- GAINST LOCALS. Stoco failed to score against the powerful Red Devil gridders on Sep- tember 17, and the hometeam won 20 -0. Walker scored first in the final play ofthe second quarter. McDaniels made a beautiful 98 yard run in the thi rd quarter for the third score of the evening. East Bank and the Devils clash at the lineup, while Denny Criss and Eddie Ayres stand back and dare the opponents to come across. In the fi nal minutes of the third quarter in the Princeton game, David Hartenstein, quarter back makes a desperate attempt to score for the Devils. Backing him are Charles Haga and Ken Pannell. DUDAMEN TRIUMPH OVER PRINCETON. The Red Devils came from be- hind in the second q ua rte r on Sep- tember 23 to defeat the Princeton Ti- gers 39-7. Criss sco red the first TD and Kania raced eo yards for the second. Haga, Hartenstein, and Jarvis added the others. OAK HILL GETS REVENGE FROM PIRATES Collins High etched out a 33-31 win over the Fayetteville Pirates Oct- ober l on the home field. This win n ul li fi ed the two wins Fayetteville sco red over the Devils in 1953 and 1954. Ayres scored the first touchdown and Nichols,Criss, and Pannell added the others.

COLLINS DEVILS DOSE HEARTBREAKER TO BECKLEY Passing the half-way mark in the '55 season, the local boys met the Beckley Flying Eagles at Beckley on October 7. Amid to r re nt s of rain, Duda's boys lost a heartbreaker to the Flying Eagles. In their first loss of the season, the Devils failed to score and were defeated 18-0. DUDAMEN TAKE CLAY PANTHERS Recovering from their defeat by Beckley, the Collins Highers felled the Clay Panthers 19-6 on October 14. Haga crossed the goal line first, and Criss and Nichols accounted for the other twelve points. This wa s the fi r s t Clay team to ever visit Oak Hill. RED DEVILS SLAUGHTER MONTGOMERY GREYHOUNDS Scoring their s e v e nt h win, the Red Devils slaughtered the Montgomery Greyhounds 48-0 on October 21 in the Red Devil Stadium. In a scramble,the Red Devils came up fighting as a team and as individuals. Here in the third quar- ter,blockingis being used as defense. Traditionally getting a slow start, Satan's men failed to score until the second quarter. Mc- Daniels caughtapass on the 20 and raced into the end zone. McDaniels again raced 55 yards for the second TD. Adding more points were Criss, Har- tenstein, Lich, and Lukie. HINTON LOSES TO RED AND BLACK Playing against a strong wind, the Collins Devils defeated the Hinton Bobcats 34-0 on Oct- ober Z8 at Hinton. Pannell made the first touchdown in the first quarterwhen he picked up a fumble and raced 12 yards. DEVILS RETAIN LITTLE BROWN JUG Retaining the Little Brown Jug the locals defeated Mt. Hope 14-O. Sco ring wa s held to a stand still until the third quarter when Nichols raced over for the TD. Oak Hill's other touchdown was made in the thi rd quarte r when Pannell caught a pass and raced over. Denny Criss, quarterback, pre- pares to pass to Buck McDaniels standing on the 25-yard line. His team mates hold Clay back so Denny can complete the pass. VARSITY
