Sylvia, chosen by the senior sponsors, was officially crowned at the annual West Virginia Tech-Concord C i v i t an Bowl Game, which was played in Beckley. At the game Sylvia, along with several high school girls ofthis area, was saluted by the Concord and Tech Bands and was presented with orchids. Sylvia, an a t t r a c ti v e and well-known senior, was chosen for her participation in school organi- zations and her devotion to different school projects. Freshmenwere initiated into the routines of the high s chool by sixteen outstanding seniors, who explained how to ge t the most from a high school career. School customs and traditions we re explained, and the freshmen we re given advice concerning the ad- vantages of publications and other extra-curric- C ol li n s football boys playfully dare each other to make s pe e che s amid cheers of students at the first pep meeting. jab '17 D0 Salcmulgf' ular activities. Mrs.Sue Scott, sponsor of the student coun- cil, gave the qualifications of the speakers, and Danny Wilkerson, student body president, intro- duced them. The spirit and rival ry of the game, as in past games, added much to the gaiety of the occasion. After the half-time performances .of both high school bands, the bands formeda lane of honor for the crowning of Miss Red Devil and Miss Mustang. Miss Red Devil and her attendants we re: Beverly Blake, escorted by Jerry Smith, Yvonne Tatum es- corted by Mike Rollins, and Barbara Oxendale, es- corted by Gary Lewis. Homecoming. .Jler Majesty, .Queen Barbara Janet Grounds, Honor Attendant, Barbara Bolt, Miss Home- nior attendant, and Barbara Oxen- dale, sophomore attendant. coming, Peggy Calvert, Ju T7 '-T12 ,, Q ue e n s, attendants, a nd alumni can mean only one thing ---homecoming. Reigning as the gracious queenof the festivities this year, Barbara Bolt and her at- tendants stately walked tothe c e nte r of the football field at the Red Devil Memorial Stadi- um and a c c e pt e d bouquets of giant mums. Forming an honor- ary aisle, the Red Devil Band softly played Unchained Mel- ody, while a h u s he d silence fell over the spectators. Every- one agreed that they had never seen a more impressive cere- mony.
