With this preamble as a guide, members of the Student Council are fully conscious of their responsibilities of both students and faculty. Because they set the ex- ample for the entire student body, members of this governing organization assume their duties with seriousness and also with enthusiasm. Many activities are sponsored by the Student Council. Even though the student body actually selects the girls by popular vote, the Council sponsors Miss Red Devil, Miss Imp, the junior and senior high Homecoming Queens, and also plans the ceremony for each girl's recognition. The annual Talent Show is another project of the Student Council. This attraction features talent from all four classes and proves popular with students and faculty members. Awards are also given by the Student Council. These include: Homecoming Chairman, Home- coming Parade Marshall,May FestivalChairman, Hi-Teen Certificates to the thirty-six boys and girls who won Hi-Teen honors for the school term. Other projects of the Council are: student elections, the move-up assembly at the close of schoolwhich features the introduction of the new officers, the Christmas program, and the Devils' Den dances. This organization, which is composed of scholastic honor students, has as its goals: creating enthu- siasm for scholarship, stimulating the desire to render service, promoting worthy leadership, and encouraging the development of character. ln order to become a member of the Honor Society,a student mustbea member of the senior class, must maintain a B average in all sub- jects taken, and must be approved by the faculty. Students are selected at the end of their junior year. The basis for faculty recommendation is similar to the goals of the club: scholarship, ser- vice, leadership, and character. Many activities are sponsored by the l3 club, but probably one of the most outstanding is the Bobbitt Memorial Scholarship Loan Fund. This fund was established to give an outstanding senior planning to attend college S100 toward school expenses. Another eagerly anticipated activity is the movie shown each six weeks to all honor roll students, and in addition to these activities the l3 club also sponsors an annual bridge-can- asta party, and each Christmas prepares a bas- ket for a needy family. The only prerequisites for becoming a mem- STAFF ber of The Log Staff are first, to have taken jour- nalism,or to be enrolled in journalism, and second, to meet the approval of the staff from the previous year. An important award presented by The Log is the Athlete of the Year which is given to a senior boy selected by the coaching staff. His name is engraved on a plaque which is placed in the gymnasium. These leaders were chosen by their sports ability, their interestin sports, and by the fact that they are seniors. The team was victorious and the crowd was overjoyed, but the credit goes not only to the man who made the to uchdown or the coaches. The praise is b e s to we d also upon the co-captains. These two boys trained and helped the other play- ers instilling in them a respect for team work. Coaching the Red Devil and Imp basketball and football squads to victory is the responsibility of these three men.
