SECTIONAL TOURNEY HEARTBREAK AND DEFEAT went hand in hand as the Collins Red Devils lost the 1953 Section 20-A title to the favored Mt. Hope Mustangs, 55-44, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building on March 8. Screams echoed throughout the enormous auditorium dur- ing the entire game as the struggle became more intent and tension heightened. Never before had any two teams had so much support from the bleachers. The Devils qualified for the playoff in the finals of the tournament by defeating the Fayetteville Pirates, 71-64, two nights before. Gypsy Kay, head cheerlead- er, receives a meaaphone for having been chosen the best cheerleader from Collins at the Section 20-A Tourney. Billy Hale leaps into the air tonished Fayetteville Pirates look on. Qi Peanuts happily receives his medal for making first string All- Tournament team. the one of the moment had ever been played, Bill shakes hands as he is awarded his medal for mal-cinq first string, All-Tournament team.
