mare, ...mm Red Devils warm up for their traditional lug game with Mt. Hope. DEVILS HAND OVER lUG RED DEVIL CO-CAPTAINS Albert Kokoski and Ssirley Burgess reluctantly hand over the Little Brown lug to the Mustangs, November 7 after a heartbreaking 25-0 defeat by the Mt. Hope boys. It was the first time in three years that the Iug had been moved from its place of honor in the Col- lins trophy case, except for its yearly appearance at the Mt. Hope-Oak Hill classic. Mustangs crossed the Collins goal four times and made one extra point in their bid for the beloved trophy. The Red Devil defense, almost powerless against the strong Mustang line, was again plagued by fumbles throughout the evening. Lyle Hinte, speedy Mustang back field runner, opened the game by taking the kick-off and driving 23 yards for the score. In the second period Udy Stover. another fast Mustang back, went 46 yards to hit paydirt. The Red Devils, who seemed to gain renewed strength during halftime, were again stopped by the Mustangs when quarterback Walter Bean plunged six yards for the third Mt. Hope TD. Late in the final period all hopes for a Collins rally ended when Mt. Hope's Iohn Kody made qood a Mustang pass for the final score of the evening. The kick for the conversion was good. Final score: Mt. Hope 25, Oak Hill 0. DU PONT DROPS DEVILS HALLOWEEN NIGHT MEANT MORE than tricks or Pont on the disappointing side of a 12-7 score. One of the Panther touchdowns came on the first play from scrimmage when a DuPont boy, behind superb block- ing, ran all the way for the score. The try for the extra point failed. In the second half, Shirley Burgess, Devil halfback, spearheaded an attack which took the ball to the DuPont three-yard line. Frank Harkenstein, Oak Hill quarterback. then flipped a pass to Fred Rogusky, end, who went over for Collins' only touchdown. Frank also added the extra point. In the second half Frank McKewan scored for the second time for the Panthers when he seized an Oak Hill punt on his own 45-yard line and drove all the way for the final score of the game. The attempt for conversion failed. the accompaniment of thudding leather and 8 1952 RED DEVIL GRID ROUND UP SOMETIMES WE'RE UP. Sometimes we're down. And like true philosophers Collins fans and football heroes accepted the Ups and Downs of the 1953 grid season. This was not one of the Red Devils' better years.
