C0llIllGSU.IO0D HIGH PIISSES BY Collingswood public education had its be- ginning in a private institution called the Barton School, which was built in l789. Early school records tell of a band of earnest rnen who Feeling the necessity of giving our children and those entrusted to our care an education which shall enable them to be- come useful members of society, do form ourselves into an association known by the name of Newton Union School Society. The next step in the development of education in Collingswood was in l906, when the Ed- ward C. Knight High School officially began with twentyffive pupils. The main part of the building was finished in time for the first class of twelve students to graduate in l9lU. This year's class numbers 242. During l9l5 two wings were added to the Senior High School building, ln the year of 1924, the lunior High School was completed. The high school faces beautiful Knight Park and is surrounded by attractive homes of the townspeople. Truly, Collingswood High School is a center of pride and interest in the community.
