From the time one enters kindergarten school. life is a continuous parade from room to room. grade to grade. and school to school. Finally the parade reaches its greatest tempo in the senior year in high school. This march of school life is planned and directed by the ADMINISTRATION. made in- teresting by ACTIVITIES, and participated in by the CLASSES. Because of the close associa- tion of this theme with the lives of students, the ,class oi 1948 of Collingswood High School has chosen Collingswood on Parade as the 1948 yearbook theme. His extra activities include Boy Scout work and a hobby shop in his cellar. For the future he plans retirement and a peaceful little home in the country. C0lllIlGSU.l00D UIEUJS 0Il Collingswood, a beautiful suburban town of 12,685 people, is located in southern New Iersey. Its beautiful P n R n D E landmarks are built on soil that was used by the first settlers at the same time Philadelphia began. Land in Collingswood at that time was owned by Robert Zane and Robert Turner. From 1888, when Collingswood was first recog- nized as a borough, up until the present time, the high standards of Collingswood's founders have been main- tained. 9 the Fifi'- Erase! Early school records tell of a band of earnest rnen who Feeling the necessity of giving our children and those entrusted to our care an education which shall enable them to be- come useful members of society, do form ourselves into an association known by the name of Newton Union School Society. The next step in the development of education in Collingswood was in l906, when the Ed- ward C. Knight High School officially began with twentyffive pupils. The main part of the building was finished in time for the first class of twelve students to graduate in l9lU. This year's class numbers 242. During l9l5 two wings were added to the Senior High School building, ln the year of 1924, the lunior High School was completed. The high school faces beautiful Knight Park and is surrounded by attractive homes of the townspeople. Truly, Collingswood High School is a center of pride and interest in the community. To the Class of 1948, Congratulations. You are being graduated at a time when the national problem is How to Improve the World? Consider two thoughts: Every man can improve the world. He can improve himself. Because you have graduated from high school, you are better equipped for self-improvement. Do not teel that your effort toward world improvement could be so small 'as to appear useless. A better individual and citizen is the result of continuous self-improvement. With this thought, Farewell, and God's speed! P. S. EICHELBERGER. To the Class of 1943: This is a time of gladness. Twelve years of work will be rewarded by a diploma. This is also a time of sadness because good friends must part. This is a time for facing many challenges which the future will offer. Best wishes for your success and happiness. R. L. CURHIER. RRY OF HOPE Atl. ,f ,-o To many, the American Iunior Red Cross Club is ray of hope. Among its many activi- ties, helping the needy is the most important. Afghans, candy bars, comic books, cross- word puzzles, cartoon scrapbooks, games and Christmas cards are sent to Tilton Gen- eral Hospital and the Lyons Hospital. The Ir. Red Cross also aids many organizations in their drives. One outstanding achievement for this year was the response of the Ir. Red Cross to a personal request from the Mosley family of Asher, Kentucky for articles of cloth- ing. For their annual Membership Fund, the Ir. Red Cross received a very gratifying sum. An honor bestowed upon the school was the election of Constance Holcombe as pres- ident of the Camden County Secondary Council of the Ir. Red Cross. Collingswood received national acclaim by placing Iohn Murphy, of the class of 1947, on Look's fifth annual All-American High School Track Team as the outstanding high school javelin thrower in the nation. Murphy, who has never fallen below the 160' mark in his entire career, shone brilliant- ly last year. He clinched the All-American title by tossing the spear 197 feet V4 inch in the University of Pennsylvania Invitation Meet.
