Latin Foreign Language Department H NE of the aims ot the Foreign Language Department is to give an under- standing of the language, that is, a fair ability to read, write, and speak the language. The student becomes better acquainted with his mother tongue-its ward derivations and grammatical:constructions. A second aim is to give a cultural background by creating an appreciation for the literature, art, and music of the country. Another aim is to prepare the student for further study in college. German is invaluable in the study of medicine and chemistry since many scientific works have never been translated into English and must theretore be read in the original, ESTHER A. SNOKE.

Commercial Department H HE commercial department aims to prepare boys and girls to become competent members at the business community. This involves the teaching of general busi- ness subiects like business organization and law, as well as the more technical subjects of shorthand, typing, and bookkeeping, Fully cis important os any of these subjects is the development ot good business habits and attitudes. Special Teachers ff HE choral clubs develop pleasure in singing as a means of expression, establish habits of preferring the worth while in music literature, discover and encourage the especially gifted. E V 9 v Orchestra participation provides practice in ensemble work and contributes effectively to the life of the school, BESS HUEY' The students, for Physical Education purposes, are divided into two groups, electing interscholastic athletics ar regular 'gym' work. ln athletics we attempt to teach the fundamentals of the diferent sports to develop the ideas ot good sportsmanship, school spirit, team work. ln the 'gym' classes the students receive instruction in calisthenics, drills athletics, first aid, personal and community health and safety, and in correcting and preventing bodily deficiency, with special reference to developing bodily strength md WO'- H.
