To the Senior Class of 1969: Hie time has come for me to speak a few words of wisdom to each of you as you prepare to make your departure. I am elated that you have come this far on your educational journey and I have enjoyed working with you and for you. Your class has been an outstanding one, in that it was composed of many students with scholastic ability and varied talents, I can’t help but miss your presence here at Colleton High School, but I wish each of you continued success in your endeavors. You have been taught many things at Colleton High School; you have participated in many activities and your lives have been enriched by these. As you go your separate ways I want you to always remember that “Education does not consist merely in mastering languages, the scientific field, the business world and other professions, but education is also found in that moral training which extends beyond the schoolroom to the streets and various avenues of life.” As you continue to build upon your educational foundation, may you always remember your training at Colleton High School and these parting words: “So high grandeur to our dust, So near is God to man. When duty whispers low; Thou must The youth replies, “I can.” — Emerson 6 F. L. Talford, Jr., Principal

Dedication We respectfully dedicate the 1969 WOLVERINE to you, Mr. Theo H. Bythewood, for your untiring service to Colleton High School. You came to Colleton High School in September, 1952, and you labored, you smiled, you shared in our sorrows, our griefs, and our misunderstandings, until your retirement on May 31. 1968. This dedication is in recognition of your sincere devotion, your earnest concern for the students, the love for your fellow faculty members, and your unselfish sharing of your talents in the Carpentry Department at Colleton High School. All of this contributed to the development of a better program for our school. Mr. Bythewood, for all that have been said and more that could have been said about you, the Senior Class of 1969 proudly dedicates the WOLVERINE to you. Mr. Theo Bythewood Mr. Bythewood, a native of Beaufort, South Carolina, gave fifty years of faithful work in the field of carpentry. He is noted throughout the low country for his outstanding work. We were very proud that part of ljis fifty years was spent at Colleton High School. He will be remembered by all of the boys of his department for his wise teaching and calm disposition. The last year of his teaching career at Colleton High School, he gave a SI00.00 scholarship in honor of his deceased wife, Mrs. Mae Bythewood, to a boy who planned to continue his education in Industrial Arts. The recipient of this scholarship was William Bolds, a freshman at South Carolina State College, majoring in Industrial Arts. 4
