STAFF FOREWORD We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the advertisers and patrons who have made it possible for us to publish this, our initial yearbook. In compiling this book we have made an effort to capture some of the highlights of our school days which will bring pleasant memories through the ensuing years. We wish to acknowledge the patience and consideration of our photographer, Richard Price and our typist, Miss Mabel Graham. Gratefully, The Seniors of 1955 We, the Senior Class of 1955, wish to dedicate The Wolverine to our princi- pal and friend, Mr. E. M. Wiley, as a token of our appreciation for his interest, friendship, sincere sympathy, endless patience and unstinted service to us during our years at Colleton High. His untiring efforts and sacrifices have helped us in attaining the rank of graduates. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Greetings: I want to congratulate each member of the Senior Class, the Officers and Advisors for the excel- lent job accomplished and the untiring efforts demostrated in the publication of this annual. I would like also to restate our purpose, Colleton High, School proposes to give leadership and to work cooperatively with children, teachers, custodians, parents, and other persons and agencies of the community to develop and maintain educational services that will contribute to effective total living for the total community. Total living includes health, recreation, housing, living with other people, as well as intellectual, spiritual, vocational, and civic development. The total community in- cludes children and adults within and without the school organization. Education embraces knowledge, training, and aspiration; knowledge of the practical and social arts, of the funded wisdom and aspiration of the race, and of the fine arts. Knowledge alone is not enough--ethics is indispensable. Education includes the training of body and spirit. Education fosters the social virtues by example. We learned that Judson Parker is living in Spartanburg, S. C. and is now owner of a big Textile business and Vice-President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. We were not too surprised to hear that Harold Scott is an accomplished lawyer and business man in Philadelphia. Emerson Maree has realized his dream and is interning at John Hopkins, and assistant coach and music director at the Y.M.C.A. Bettye Johnson, Delores Robinson, Mamie Simmons are partners in one of the South's largest Clothing businesses. Carrie Coaxum, an accomplished singer, is opening at the Paramount Theatre in the fall along with Duke Ellington's Band. Shirley Summers is Physical Education teacher at Morgan State, with her is Mary Cummings, head of the English Department and Annie P. Gethers, Dean of Women. Edith Frasier heads the Music Department at Johnson C. Smith University. We heard that Vernon Holmes is now playing professional basketball with the Globetrotters. Edward Boles is now a happily married business man and has 3daughters and 1 boy. Mary Lane Saunders is leader of an all Girls Band. Her assistant is Mary Helen Williams.
