Bantnury, was lnorn 17 March 1925 in Knox Country, Otiio. He graduated trom Danville Higii Sctxool and attended Otiio University prior to entering tlie United States Navy in May 1943. Atter graduating from time Radio Material School, Treasure Island, Cali- . tornia, he was ordered to duty instructing at tile Radio Technician Sciiool, Navy Pier, Chicago Illinois. Lieutenant Cornmander Bantiury advanced to Clniet Electronics Teclinician in Ianuary 19446 and reported as a rnemlaer ot tlie commissioning crew ot time USS BUCK CDD-7615. Following duty in USS BUCK, l1e served in USS JOHN A. CDD-7595, USS SIERRA CAD-185 and in USS , PIEDMONT QAD-175, the latter in Tsingtao, China, shortly tnetore Tsingtao was Occupied ivy the i Cluinese Communists. ' E In 19419 Lieutenant Commander Banlaury was ordered to duty instructing at ttie Advanced Undersea Weapons Scitmoot, Key West, Florida. He served in USS CCA-1335 in 1952 and i 'E 1953 during two deployments to tlue Korean area then returned to tlie Advanced Undersea Weapons 1 Atter graduating sixtii in txis class at Otticers Candidate Sctiool, Newport, Rliode Island, in Sep- temluer 1955, Lieutenant Commander Bantmury was ordered to WORCESTER CCL-1440 and served as a junior otticer ot a declz division, tl'1en F Division Otticer and First Lieutenant. Upon graduation in June 1960 and a course W ot instruction in ittie General Line Scluool, Monterey, California, tie was ordered to USS MCKEAN K QDDR-7845 as Cperations Otticer tor anottier deployment to ttie Western Pacitic. Lieutenant Commander Baniaury reported on iuoard USS TILLS CDE-248D at Portland, Maine, in Iuly 1962 as Otticer-in-Charge and was concurrently the Commanding Otticer ot tile Naval Reserve Training Cellfef from AP1'i1 to A119113 1964. In August 1964 lie was ordered to ttie statt Commander J Service Force, US. Atlantic Fleet, Nortoliz, Virginia, and served as Assistant Electronics Ctticer ttien Electronic Data Processing Otticer.
