Sister Alice Donoher is a familiar face on the CNR campus. She has a constant smile that brightens up every room she walks into. As head of Campus Ministry and Advisor to the Class of 1964, she has been with the seniors for four years and her support has been the back bone of the class. Her positive attitude and passion for life make her the campus ' s guardian angel. The College of New Rochelle wos founded in 1904 by rhe Ursulines and was rhe firsr Carholic college for women in New York Srare. In rhe lasr 80 years, borh rhe campus and rh srudenr body have grown. The rouchsrone of rhe college, rhe Casrle, was once used for classes and housing. Ir presenriy accommodares faculry offices, rhe Casrle Gallery and is used for college receprions. The Casrle is also on rhe Narional Regisrer of Historic Places. The college campus os we now know ir, grew up around rhe Casrle Through rhe years, wirh rhe mosr recenr dorm, Ursula Hall being com- plered in 1962. Whar abour rhe rules? We may complain abour parie- rals, bur rhere was a rime when males were nor allowed in rhe dorms ar all. Imagine rhe mixers in rhe 1920 ' s and 1930 ' s wirh regard ro rhe alcohol policy ... Time has broughr abour many changes in rhe rules abour curfews and lighrs our, bur hisrory is srill in rhe making. A new rradirion began in 1983 when rhe Locker Room, rhe campus pub, opened in rhe Sporrs Building. In addirion, resrorarion of rhe Holy Family Chapel has begun wirh rhe supporr of rhe srudenrs, alumnae and members of rhe communiry. CNR is 80 years srrong in 1984.
