The sTudenT body consisTed of Two Timid young women sixTeen years oT age, Miss Lillian PoTTer and Miss Minnie Reed. The TacuITy consisTed of seven men and women, each oT whom had voIunTeered his services To The new insTiTuTion. The Touncler and presideni' of The college was a young minisTer by The name oT William Judson Boone who in 1887. having been graduaTed Trom The WesTern Theological Seminary in IfiTTsburgh, Pennsylvania, IeTT The seTTIed EasT To minisTer To The handful of people in The yeT unfinished PresbyTerian Church in The small pioneer Town OT Caldwell, Idaho. For The TirsT Two years oT iTs exisTence, The College of Idaho -was quarTered in small rooms in ThaT PresbyTerian Church. And so The college began and so iT grew. WiThin The TirsT Ten years money was raised To build Three Trame college buildings near The PresbyTerian Church. In I9IO, aTTer a mighTy eTTorT oT raising SIO0,000, The college moved Trom down-Town Caldwell inTo STerry, Finney and Voorhees Halls on The ouTsIcirTs oT Town. Those early years in The building oT The College of Idaho were hard years: so hard. in TacT, ThaT men and women oT lesser courage would have given up. BUT Dr. Boone, Those pioneer professors, and The loyal Triends of The college were sTaIwarT people. They had vision, courage, and TaiTh. They were people oT characTer and Their characTer permeaTed The College oT Idaho. The College oT Idaho Today is The inheriTor oT Their sTrengTh and Their vision. May we be worThy of ThaT inheriTance.
