The Dean sees that the College educates young men and women for a dynamic en- richment of their intellectual, vocational, religious, and social lives. Additionally, she sees that the students are exposed to realistic, straightforward encounters with the changing world in order to refine their judge- ment and teach practical problem solving. Dean Kirk- patrick's role also includes finding that each student's individual needs are met. The total welfare of each student rests with her andthe departmental structures. lvlrs. u The truly aware individual is the most important part of this or any society. Through education in all its forms, both teaching and learning, one can truly begin to see this world with all the delights and problems that it can muster. For her honesty and reliability, along with a strong desire to see that her ideas are not misinter- preted, for being completely fair in all that she tries to accomplish, for her many contributions to the College of Emporia, we honor Dr. Wynona Kirkpatrick, Academic Dean. . ' Dean Kirkpatrick matriculated her studies at the Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia in 1955. In that year she received her l3.S. degree, and the following year she began to teach foreign languages at the Staffordville High School. This was not to be the ending point for her career! ln 1958 Dr. Kirkpatrick completed post graduate work at the Sorbonne in Paris. By the year 1960 the Dean had earned her Master of Science degree at K.S.T.C. Doctor Kirkpatrick came tothe College of Emporia in 1960 to serve as the Dean of Women. She held that post for three years until 1963. Again Dean Kirkpatrick left the teaching profession tobecome a student. At the University of Arkansas Dr. Kirkpatrick received her Doctorate in Education in 1964. After this she returned to the College of Emporia to assume new duties as the Dean of Academic Affairs, a post she has held until the present. 4 N in conjunction with other aspects of her life the Dean has been involved in various capacities dealing with the world of education. She is a member of the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors, along with membership in the American Association of University Women. Dean Kirkpatrick is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and has her name listed with other outstanding women in the Who's Who in American Women. Because of her sincere qualities and dedication to the world of education, and on behalf of all the students who have come in contact with her, we, the staff of the Alla Rah,would like to dedicate this Yearbook to Dr. Wynona Jeanne Kirkpatrick. 12257 . -- -ff ' - T: - ' V ' Y' T KT' v --212513 fl J' 3!1!L'1E.E1 i3LIET.!d'24 4l1jiZ!1Qh .1 1 1 LJLIJLQ HMI
