The Reverend Mr, Hanna, a native of Emporia, came to the College in August, 1960, as Director of Personnel,Before coming here, he was pastor for two years of the First Presbyterian Church in Canon City, Colorado, The Ten Year Plan will be carried on under his guidance, and he has made a pledge to attain the goals set forth in the program, DR. A quality edu- cation, both academically and spiritually, is offered to those people who can profit most from higher education. In our present age a college edu- cation has become a necessity. Student enrollments are going to double and The College of Emporia is anxious to do its part to fulfill the needs of our nation, The College stands at the threshold of one of its finest opportunities. Christian Liberal Arts colleges can and will prosper and produce quality people to take their place in modern society. It has been a very rewarding ex- perience being President for the past year - to witness the enthusiasm and zest of students, faculty and staff - to make The College of Emporia the Best. Francis L. It is composed of two representatives from each class, and a president and representative-at-large elected by the student body. New representatives to be added to Stuco beginning next year are: one representative from each dormitory, one off-campus student representative, one representative from the student nurses home, and two more representatives-at-large. Stuco's purposes are: to promote the best interest ofthe College of Emporia by improving and main- taining academic, social and moral ideals, to encourage student activitiesg to regulate conduct within the sphere of studentjurisdictiong to havecharge of general student programs and college electionsg to stimulate, promote, and reflect student life, and to cooperate with the faculty in the study of college problems. In , i order to carry out its many functions, Stuco has established standing committees which represent a cross section of student activities. In the play, Theophano,is the E mpr es s of the Byzantine empire at Constantinople, The play tells of her attempts to unseat her emperor husband and replace him with a young warrior whom she has taken as her lover. ' The Presbies started the season with 10 returning lettermen and a new coach, Bob Johnson. The Big Red rolled to six straight victories before they felt the sting of defeat at the hands of Rockhurst College. The Christmas Tournament gave the Presbies two more wins and one loss. The Fighting Presbies were led through the first half of the season by Lefty Higgins, Pete Weng and Art Nichols, Lefty graduated at the end of the first semester and Herman Rathrnan joined the starting five. The Big Red went on to post a record of 16 and 2 in Conference play and were tied with Southwestern for the league title. This honor is given in recognition of ones activities in campus life, character, grades, and four years attendance at the College of Emporia, Off to a slow start his freshman year, Paul became more campus-minded as a sophomore. As a member of the Presby baseball team, he worked hard, earned a letter for his efforts, and became a member of E-Club, Picking up steam during his junior year, Paul joined S, N, E, A, and was elected President in the spring for his Senior year, He retained his position on the baseball team, as well as remaining active in E-Club, to serve as one of the two senior class representatives for the coming year. By his senior year, Paul was rolling along and gathering speed. As president of S, N, E, A., he found himself deeply involved in edu- cational concerns, In Student Commission, fellow members elected him treasurer of their organization. She was in an operetta, orchestra, and Mu Phi Epsilon, an honorary music sorority. As a Presby Pepper, she supported all athletic events. She was also a reporter for the College Life, As asophomore, Karen remained active in Mu Phiand orchestra, The Pep Club elected her secretary, where she did an excellent job. In her junior year, Karen joined touring chorale. She was elected treasurer of Mu Phi for 1959-1960, In Dunlap Hall she was elected chaplain and represent- ative tothe House Council. Karen was also a member of the Religion in Life Committee. The Presby Peppers elected her president of the organization for 1959-1960. Karen's senior year was a whirl of activities. As president of Dunlap Hall, she displayed her fine qualities as a leader, Karen was elected vice pres- ident of Mu Phi and remained active in touring chorale.
