They had much in common with the '49ers of a century ago, who set out into the unknown to find the rumored gold of the West. As these hardy pioneers made their way across the continent, fall found them crossing the great plains to the Rocky Mountains, where they passed the winter. In early spring, their trek was drawing to a close in the valleys of California. The search for gold, however, was yet to come, and the final achieve- ment of their goal lay ahead of them. V So it is with us, the '49ers of this century. After pushing on through fall, winter and spring toward our goal, we are now ready to discover for ourselves the treasures which lie at the end of our trek. 'waiagais . 'iq . . Named for a renowned Presby coach, the graveyard, located on the -northwest part of the campus, is the final resting place for those teams de- feated by the C. of E. football squad. After each victory the team, followed by the student body, carries the headstone to the cemetery to be set in place with proper ceremony. One of the pre-ministerial students delivers the funeral oration, and the mourners bemoan the sad fate of the deceased. Judging from the appearance of our football team, we will have to build a bigger cemetery for those ghosts to haunt. Epistle to Peter, the Presby . . . Friends, Romans, Countrymen , . . EUHKCLIU Ct Known over Kansas as one of the best women's dormitories in the state, Dunlap Hall has been the place of many happy hours for the seventy girls residing here. The House Council of Dunlap Hall this year was made up of Margaret Keraus, President, Doris Hamer, Vice-President, Mary Beth Herriott, Secretary, Marjorie Fisk, Treasurer, Cynthia Carson, Head Proctor, and rep- resentatives from each class. Mrs. Florence Lesh was the capable House Mother, who looked after the girls and their home. The new sponsor, Mrs. Blanche H. Redfield, was the Dean of Women, she frequently came to the house meetings. Last summer the parlors were completely redeco- rated. The floor was covered with new dusty rose car- peting. New lamps, slip covers, and venetian blinds were added to enhance the beauty of the carpets. Dunlap Hall has sponsored several outstanding so- cial events this year, including a reception in September for the new students and faculty, and the traditional Open House. MRS.
