Dean of College . . . llur Dean peak College is a voyage of discovery. And what a thrilling, inspiring and profit- able voyage it is! Prompted by the spirit of adventure and the desire for knowledge we are lured on and on from sea to sea, from land to land, from sky to sky. The world of nature -- chemical, physical, biological, the course of human history - economic, political, social, moral, and the interpretation of the universe in terms of our own needs, our responsibilities and opportunities, exercise our highest powers. Never satisfied, we find joy not in what we achieve but in achieving, not in complete realization but in the hope of attaining. The fellowship we have in this venture with the hardened, weather- beaten sailors as well as with the uninitiated on their maiden voyage, con- stitutes the unexpected discovery and the unlooked for value. Sharing in each other's defeats, co-operating in each other's successes and triumphs, we are bound together by ties of mutual purposes and common interests. A deeper, broader, richer and more enduring fellow feeling gives us a love for service and an assurance of faith in our fellow men. When on graduation we join the company of the alumni whose hearts beat strong and warm for The College of Emporia, and take our places in the larger fellowship of graduates of all other colleges, an in- creased sense of responsibility comes with our increased sense of power in numbers. But the crowning experience of this voyage and the life to which we are introduced is the growing appreciation of the beauty, the grandeur, and the sulolimity of life, and the deepening faith in the Creator of all, the Alpha and the Omega, The Way, the Truth, and the Life which is the motto on our seal. The acknowledgement and prayer of Henry Cary Shuttleworth voices our allegiance. CONRAD VANDERVELDE Mah lives not for himself alone, In others' yood he finds his O?l,'?'l,' Lifes worth l'lLf6llOll,'Slll'1J is lsmnufn. We, friends and comrades on llfe's way, Gather within these walls to pray: Bless Thou our Iffillflll'-YIZZIIJ today. O Christ, our Elder Brother, who By servyihy mah Godis will didst do, Help as to serve our brethren, too.
