They represent a happiness which we will deeply regret to leave. From the moment we entered as wide-eyed freshmen in September, 1942 and were indoctrinated into college life through an Orientation Week, we were warmly welcomed by both faculty and students. We were very proud of our large class-the largest in the history of the college up to that time-and our exclusive group of men. Unfortunately the draft came along and blew most of them away before the year ended. We soon learned that Brockport was a place for work and lVliss Yale's unique art classes were a source of unusual enjoyment. The annual Christmas Ball gave us an opportunity to show our appreciation to all who had paved the way for our future success and happiness at Brockport. We returned the next fall full of ideas for our Sophomore year. Our first major task was to convey to the incoming class the 'fwantedu feeling which had been given to us as bewildered Fresh. Later in the year we shook our formals out of moth balls and attended the annual Student-Faculty Reception and banquet. Our year's cul- minating activity was a ublack face show entitled The Chocolate Barn, which was later included in the Spring Day assembly. As Juniors our class was divided by acceleration. VVe lost many old friends but we gained new ones from the sucteeding class. We were also faced with double education and cadeting, but we managed to accomplish both with only minor ail- ments. Our assembly presentation of an original fantasy called f'Little Red Riding Hood featured the voice of Mrs. McCro1y and a rendition of Little Black Sambo by Mr. Edmunds. Now at last we are Seniors, trying gallantly to uphold the long-established tradi- tions here at Brockport State. Our year began with a long-planned Fun Nite which endeavored to give old and new students and faculty a glimpse of the informal fun we have here. And now with our heads full of Senior assembly, exams, commence- ment, and teaching positions, we the class of 1946 bring our college years to a close. We will never forget the famous last words of many of our profs when we look back upon our college days. Do you get the point? will always bring back memories of Dr. Edwards, whereas 'fElucidate by Mr. Dedman, and Let us digress by Mr. Tuttle will vie in our memories with the vale of tears so often referred to by Dr. West. We have tried to live up to Brockport State Teachers' College and the feeling it inspires in us. In future years this sacred trust will be carried on by others, but we will try to carry the philosophy of Brockport with us wherever we go. 4 5,-. A lk - W W l-, J 10 ,figxfsgygiygy QQ! Bob Znwurnev' 1' - anim 'Wckztoaq We began our Freshman year with the usual greenness and gawkiness but it wasn't long before we found our place in the college routine. In our wanderings, we became acquainted with the library as well as the lounge! VVe consumed mounds of doughnuts and cider at our l-lallowe'en party, took part in the Christmas vespers and caroling, and wound up the year with a Calendar assembly to show the upper- classmen that we really did work hard once in a while. Then we were Sophomores with a somewhat depleted membership due to acceleration and the draft board. Chasing bugs Conly those with six legs need applyl, cutting up frogs and sitting up till 3:00 in the morning writing inventories left our spirits undaunted. At the present we are classified as the Jolly juniors. Though few in number we have been able to hold our own with the sudden onpour of men. VV e were also greatly honored in having three of our class elected as officers of the Student-Faculty Association. After the heated election campaigns, we were busy preparing for our assembly which was given in November. Faced with the problems and tribulations of cadeting we hope to emerge tri- umphant. The coming year promises to be one of increased activity and responsi- bility, but in spite of this, we are looking forward to our Senior year at B. S. T. Wood 1 E x 5' wing We, the class of 1948, began our career at B. S. T. C. in September, 1944, as the largest class in the school. We started our Frosh activities with a bang. During Orientation Week, the upperclassmen endeavored to make us feel at home and the formal reception gave us an opportunity to become better acquainted with the faculty. Ours was also the honor of being the class to initiate the custom of the Frosh pub- lishing the Christmas issue of the Stylus. On April 12 All Thru the Night was presented in assembly by the Freshman Follies of 1945. Our Frosh year now is paSt history and our second year well-begun. Halloween rolled around in due course of time and we undertook the sponsoring of the all-college party in celebration of the night that the goblins, witches and spooks reign o'er the land. The week after Thanksgiving saw the second big class production, HG. 1. Love Ice . The theme of this program was one uppermost in many minds today- the return of the servicemen to their homes and families now that the war is happily over. With Mrs. Delsancey and Dr. Nlorgan to show us more of their friendly under- standing and guidance, we are looking forward to our two remaining years here at Brockport State. rv :aim it V X RSM WW rr mfr r W Sapdwww Gggeww President ----- ELEANOR MCNEILL Vice-President - - - SHIRLEY Moss Secretary - - BERNICE KNAUSS Treasurer - - DOROTHY PRIESTLX 81 S yii' owl ,ufw if ,if ,, ll!! f ,nib f ,. Zornow ?i- madman Widow Many memories have been recorded by us, the Freshmen, in just the short time we have been at B. S. T. C. Due to the friendliness of our Big Sisters , upperclass- men and faculty, we began to feel as though we belonged and were an important part of college life. After attending the Freshman-Sophomore luncheon, the school picnic with its hots , colces and ice Cream and the step-sing, we began to settle down to being a working instead of a playing' class. We had our first class meeting under the able supervision of Miss Schroeder and Dr. Lee. It was then decided that we have a get acquaintedn party for our class. For the first time in several years a highly successful formal Christmas dance called the Snowbal1', was planned and organized by us. We also followed the example of our successors and produced the Christmas issue of the Stylus . Al- though it was rather a difficult task, those who contributed had fun seeing it gradually take shape. Spring not only finds growth to the Campus flora but to the Freshman class as well. As we leave, we look forward to returning next fall as Sophomores. e 9 Ns 1 aa AJIKJ f ' VD Is.: I E ,,' , U, ,Q rn, 6 0 6 WM ,vi 2,114 f .ir , V1 wif-W ' 27 1 fy Wfx 7 Ublfdww President - - - JAINIES SORCE V iCC-P1'CSiliC1'll' - JANE PIARTLMAN Secretary - MARY KUNTZ Treasurer JOSEPH FELICE 35 S 4 Q fx -g . jbllsu. .,.'. Cinquino Zcmfeazf- ' This year marks the beginning of a new type of organization here at Brockport, the Student-Faculty Association. Such a venture must be tried and tested to show its true Worth, but we believe that it will successfully accomplish its purpose-to give both students and faculty an active part in the organization of the college. A council, composed of three members elected from each class and from the faculty, is responsible for the important task of making a budget for the coming year. lt also serves as a central committee for handling aftairs which are the concern of the whole college. The officers of the Student-Faculty Association and the President of the College are ex- officio members of the Council. The success of the Student-Faculty Association and its Council is largely clue to the interest of both students and faculty in the cause of better gov- ernment for all. VVith their help, it will continue to serve faithfully the needs of B. S. T. C. The presentation of Kiss and Tell in the fall also called for willing Workers back-stage, another skill which is emphasized in dramatics. The next pro- duction, to be given in March, will again give fellow-students and friends an opportunity to spend an enjoyable evening through the eHorts of the dramatics club. 1945 1946 TNTARGARET KURZROCK - - President - - LAWRENCE Roof lVlAXINE PAUTLER - - Vice-President - - - FRANCES DAY CAROL DEWITTE - - Secretary - - CAROL DEWITTE DORIS DEARLING - - - Treasurer - - - MARGARET KISHLAR 56 Xxlifd, C , , 57 Q The Forensics Society began its career this year by -inviting all members of the student body to a picnic at the home of its leader-Dr. Edwards, at which time many new students were brought into the organization. In October dele- gates were sent to the National Rural Youth Conference at Iackson's Mill, West Virginia. They brought back interesting reports about the activities carried on there and particularly those which were the concern of our own club. One meeting a month is devoted to social activities and the other to panel discussions and speakers. 1945 1946 GBNEVIEVE SOHILLLNGEP. - President - Gamavmvn SCHILLINGER BLANGI-us I-IANDY - - Vice-President - - BLANCHE HANDY DOROTHY EDWARDS - - Secretary - ROSE MARY LEACH SYLVIA ROTHFUS - - Treasurer - - RUTH I-IINBS Advisor--Miss Surnzn 58 59 S 1945 MARION TLICKER PRISCILLA I'lOTTOIS - BARBARA TIMMENS - CAROL DEWITTE - ELEANOR IDE - TERESE KNAPP - CHARLOTTE GARELICK NIARIANNE PANZER lVIAXINE PAUTLER CARoL DEW1TT1a - CHARLES CHASE GLORIA BUONO - Eolitor-iw C hief News Editors Feature Editor Men's Sports VVo111erz's Sports Orgarzizatiorzs Eclitor Camp Corresponclent - Columnists - - Cartooriist - Business Manager Circulation Manager 1946 BLANCI-IE C. The Special Chorus, one of the most outstanding groups in B. S. T. C., is made up of members of all four classes. Through the year the chorus gathers each week to sing songs by famous composers. In the Christmas season a candle-lighted vesper service is held for the enjoyment of fellow students and friends. The colorful Spring Recital, a recent innovation, is given in May. These two programs are memorable high-lights of the college years at Brockportf 60 I , 61 70omea '4 S and The VV. S.
