The full expanse of Blow Gymnasium was used for the 1968 observance of Charter Day. Charter Day excercises come- morating the 275th Anniver- sary of the granting of the Royal Charter by their Majes- ties King William III and Queen Mary II of England on February 8, 1693, were held in Blow Gymnasium. The occa- sion was marked by distin- guished addresses, by the con- ferring of honorary degrees, and by the announcement of the recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award. Faculty, students, delegates from various colleges, and friends filled the Gym to capacity. Students overlook the scene from the upstairs balcony. Faculty members lake their places as the Anniversary Convocation begins. 19

Dr. William G. Guy and the Color Guard of the Queen ' s Guard lead the processional. The Choir sings the William and Mary Hymn both at the start and conclusion of the excercises. Dr. J. T. Baldwin helps the Seniors find their places in the Gym. Dr. Alexander Kallos directs the Faculty to their assigned positions. Delegates from many of the nation ' s colleges attended the Convocation. 20
