As a friend, as a faithful advisor, and as a great leader, he has made his place In our community. Known on and beyond our campus as an out- standing authority on education, author of several books, and receiver of numerous honors, he has served his country as well as his students.

PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE President Pomfrel attends the play. John Edwin Pomfret, president of the College, began his career as a leader in the field of education with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. The following two years he remained at Pennsylvania for his Masters Degree. In 1928, he obtained his degree of Doctor of Philosophy. At the University of South Carolina, Dr. Pomfret became Pro- fessor of History. He was next an Instructor in History at Prince- ton University. There he became first an Assistant Professor of History and then an Associate Professor. Later he was appointed Dean of Senior College and Graduate School ai Vanderbllt Uni- versity. Dr. Pomfret held the position of the Fellowship Secretary for the Social Science Research Council, Is a member of the American History Association, Southern Historical Association, Pennsylvania Historical Association, Association of Southern Graduate Deans, a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and winner of the Tallteann Award of the Irish Free State for non-flctlon in 1932.
