FRENCH INSTITUTE Last summer at the University of Rennes the CSC French de- partment held an institute for secondary school teachers of French. Sponsored by the U.S. Ofhce of Education, the nine week program familiarized the teachers with modern France and perfected their knowledge of the language. 'I4 RUSSIAN A challenging new course was added to the curriculum this year. The study of the Rus- sian language is a four-credit course taught by Mr. Sam Chaimowitch Char. Mr. Char, who is himself multi-lingual, feels that mastery of Russian will provide the key to approximately eight related languages. With the help of Mr. Char, Fran Kwiatkowski, Joanne Chalmers and Mary Shea attempt to read an article in Pravda. Miss Schaefer, Mrs. Reed, Sister Mary Henry, Sister Marie Ursalenand Miss Virginia Schubert chat with M. Brueziere, Head of the Alliance Francaise in Parts.
