Converted by the light St. Benedict brought, the barf barians became industrious peasants who tilled the soil and reaped the golden grain with a song on their lips, peasants who thanked God for the harvest, peasants who loved the toil of their hands. There were also scholars who patiently copied the wisdom of the past on parchment scrolls and princes who loved their people and who ruled them with the justice of a just law. Here and now, in our academic activities, we exercise the patience, faithfulness and thoroughness of the ancient scholars. ln our leisure time and recreational pursuits, We practice the peasants' cheerfulness and joy. And, in our converse with others, we strive to cultivate the charity and justice of 'the princes. In this way our intellectual, social, and spiritual activities all contribute to our development under the light of St. Benedict.
