THE MILESTONE - 1907-1974 Editors - Eileen Gould, Libby Helmholz Advisor - Samuel Sheffield When we started to work on this Milestone, we had no idea that this Would be the final Milestone. We hope that this last effort measures up to the standards set by Miss Doherty. Paul Dow Dawson Acting Headmaster 1973-1974 As we, the class ot1974, thought back over this everchanging year, one face stood out. In such an unusual year it has taken an unusual man - a man with the strength to lead and unity us, and the ability to care about each one of us. This is why we dedicate the last Milestone to our Acting Headmaster, Mr. Paul Dow Dawson. His patience and incomparable sense of humor have guided us through a hard year. He has worked with energy and de- votion but has never been so busy that there was no time tor a word of encouragement, advice or praise. Through this dedication we wnat to show our gratitude to Mro Dawson tor the excellentjob he has done. Jane Gilman Liebach Head of the Upper School 1973-1974 A sympathetic ear and ready advice or resounding laughter and a broad grin are what Mrs. Liebich has always meant to us. She has directed us, advised us, cajoled us, laughed with us, given us the chance to prove ourselves and loved us. Fifteen classes have graduated during the years that Mrs. Liebich has been here. To each she has been teacher, mother, judge, and advisor. To us, she, more than anyone else, represents CPS. But she knows that few of us will ever forget her or what she has done for us, She has been an invaluable influence on our lives and we are sorry that those coming after us will miss that unique experience that was Mrs. Liebich and CPS f gag; v '1 ' -' ..-' .13: v35 . They floated downstream on a great river which gave their hopes motion and direction, and they found a port and built their city, against the odds of nature, and it prospered. They brought with them, in addition to their dream, strength, desire, ingenuity, and a love of teaming and beauty. Their city attracted settlers from all lands, people industrious and sensitive, who loved substance as well as sustenance. They tiIled the soil of the valley and the soil of the mind, Along with their pots and pans, and horses. cows and goals, they brought their music, art and literature. '5 mar? illr jififiiil Their descendants built the school on one of the seven hills hut rooted actually and culturally in the city. and the school also prospered because it was designed aesthetically with practicallity. The school grew and edu- cated and lived its life. Its students grew and loved the school and loved the city. And still the city grew until the school became in small for it, not because the school was not good but because the school perhaps. was too good, and the schoot was absorbed into a larger organism - into the growing complexity of the city - not to die but to become an important part of the whole, and yet, never to be the same. Many milestones had been passed. joyful yet sad. Godspeed the travelers with many more milestones on the road. l- I- kmmmm 3 7 L A5 J55 7 ,. k V YEA BgAT . It is a school established in the City of Cincinnati in 1906 by Mary Harlan Doherty. It is a school dedicated to people - little people: Ad Su m mu m . . . , middle sized people: and big people. This is our last yearbook at The College Prepara- tory School. On July lst. the merger of The Col- lege Preparatory School and The Hillsdale-Lot- speich Schoois became official. We are now a pa rt of a new school. Our eighth graders ieave this campus to go to the new school for their , high school education. Now that the merger has come to be it is time to reflect on memories of the past, changes of the present, and hopes for the future. tCornerstone - June 7thJ Miss Doherty, Miss Jones, Mr. Beach. and this year Mr. Dawson each left a mark as head of The College Preparatory School. Traditions have changed but to each of us students. teachers. for yours: or setting the clock ahead before class: or slipping and sliding in the wet cold mud on Olympic Day 1973 - we made the Times-Star the next day!; or senior picnic lunches in Eden Park. pa rents. and alumnae alike there will always be some favorite CPS memories b Like white saddle shoes: or blue uniform skirts; or yellow demerit slips: or playing hockey in a blizzard; or racing baby chickens in'bioiogy class; or looking in the mountain of blue sweaters in the lost and found , mycmuu 'W It has always been people that were important at CPS. Pictu red on these pages are some of the little people; middle sized people; and big people 7 who are important this year. Ad Summum For- ever . , .
