Milestone '69 College Preparatory School Cincinnati, Ohio Susie Feibelman . . . Editor Samuel Sheffield . '. . Advisor Only through educa- tion can man hope to advance himself and ':f.i.r:ihis,world; only by gain- ing profound under- standing of himself can he hope to understand and influence others. Therefore, those who educate children will affect eternity, for they instill in them the po- tential to transform the future. Mr. Stirling's enthusiastic sharing of his colorful experience has stimulated his stu- dents to think, digest, disagree, research, and expand their range of perception; For having thus given the educa- torls nec plus ultra, we dedicate The 1969 Milestone to Mr. Rich- ard Stirling. h AqurVI-n. Campus reconstruction ap- proaches completion. Driveways are black- topped, floors are laid, lunches are served in the new Iunchroom on paper plates. Lasting imprints are imbedded in hardening cement, Subservient freshmen frantically roam the halls in search of domi- nating seniors for the first four weeks of school. Crotesquely clad creatures stumble blindiy, overu loaded with piles of books and food commanded by insatiable masters. Freshman Skits mark the end of servitude and the opportun- ity for subtle sarcasm. Newcomers to the high school draw their team allegiance from a basket during the Blue-Gold Con- vocation, then practice faithfully for inter-school competition. CPSts varsity team emerges victorious in the hockey match with Summit t2- U, but once again yields to Hills- dale's dexterous offensives tGaOt. Our Junior varsitie'stricky team- work, however, overcame Hills- dale's solid defense. Glee Club sings the traditional songs. Seniors walk nerv- ously down the staircase, staring into space; Each one is in- troduced with a sentence long resumt'e delivered by Mr Beach. Beaming relatives smile proudly and contribute generously to the Milestone Fund. Dishes rattle and re lieved laughter permeates the tea given by the seniors to benefit the yearbook. The Silver Tea. m mam .amwu. 'hmVrsu K RM ' Mustached second graders con- spire with drooping flowers to takeover the school. Goulish ap- paritions float through classrooms accompanied by pirates in English bowlers. Punch and Pumpkin cookies complete a day of Hallow- een festivities for the lower school. CPS as the Netherlands at Edge- Cliff's UN Conference: appreciat- ing the problems of the real UN with all its schemes, deadlocking arguments, endless discussions. November 4th Nixon wins the mock-election conducted by the sixth grade. November 5th Nixon narrowly emerges as thirty-seventh President of the United States. 16 Early Frost Kym Waits Ann Flory Marcia Funfe Martha Klayf Louisa Lewis The Old Lady Shows Her Medals Kris Osler Claire Hummel Becky Cosser Pattie Williams Amy Marsh Anne Sheffield The cleanest Town In The West Betsy Beach Marion Suyemoto Laurie Perin Karen Schulman Kim Schrotel Shelley Waits Julie Scripps Eileen Gould Johanna Ward Hundreds of manhours of work building elegant wooden sets for the new stage and rehearsing with them: sawing, hammering, paint- ing, pasting, collecting, directing, coaching, repeating. Finally three one act plays evolved: the tragic mystery of the missing Lydia in Ear- ly Frost, the dry bar drama of The Cleanest Town In The West, and the emotional and fantastic reun- ion in The Old Lady Shows Her Medals. On November 21st the Indian fortune teller and the dating game in addition to the traditional booths, drew record crowds and profits to the carnival. It's Academic was a close competition but after gaining a 30 pt. lead over Reading and Covington Catholic, the CPS team was defeated by 5 points. We learned, howev er, that Mark Twain's famous frog jumping contest took place in Calevaros County. Christmas is heralded in many ways on campus; Class parties, lower school plays, candy distributing senior elves and santas, door decorations, all over- shadowed by the final pageant. Visitors Day-An influx of curious fu- ture CPS members, entertained by ex- traordinarily prepared students and a 6th grade fairytale presentation. February 27th through March 1st honored seniors led by Mrsh Liebich and Mrs. Beach flew to Washington DC. for a weekend of touring and an hour long session with Speaker McCormick. Kyle Landt, Sharon Worthing, and Mrs. Schafer are initiated into Cum Laude and honored at the May 8th Cum Laude Dinner with Reverend Beach and Headmaster, Mr. Beach, presiding. Moliere's satirical comedy, 'The Imaginary InvaIid, was a play of hypo- chondria and hypocracy put on by the Upper School immediately preceding Spring Vacation. Cast Members: Connie Goldman, Marsha Hoff- man, Kyle Landt, Libby Lazarus, Jack McDaniel, Debbie Meyer, Bunny Putnick, Kathy Ransohoff, Pat Sastre, Sue Sastre, Meta Schloss and Sue Spurgeon. The Lower School May Fete was the first half of the school's annual athletic exhibition. Rain forced the tumbling boys and dancing girls into the gym to demH onstrate their abilites to proud parents. After hours of delibera- tion and preparation the 7th and 8th graders danced to the beat of the After Math in the elabo- rately fauna bedecked Iunchroom. Three hours of intensive physical exertion, three hours of spirited enjoyable competi- tion, are followed by three days of unaccustomed soreness. The Blues attained the victo- ry! The various contests proved to be a popular addi- tion to CPS calen- dar; the Blue-Gold Olympics. E '3; A Beachnut Park was the scene of this Years Hac Show. The coiorful theme of Spring Fever and grease painted faces made the show a tremendous success. New Honorary Athletic Club Members: Roxanne Kinney, Betsey Brightwell, Mary Mason, Susan Rice, Karn Kinmouth, Martha Schuster, Spot Block, Gretchen Holzman and Susan Tidd. A . lwlupiu ?nMUII;1D'IcmArLW' e e ,1 A year of planning, argu- ing, drawing and deciding finally resulted in the creation of an unusuaE Cabaret.
