PRESIDENT UF THE CULLEGE L Very Reverend John A. 0'Brien. SJ.. has been Rector of Holy Vross since 1948. throughout an era when the colleges of the country have been experiencing the great- est difficulties in maintaining standards, providing for the extraordinary influx of 11ew students, and expanding facilities as costs went up and income declined. It is indicative of the quality of his leadership that in this same period Holy Cross has taken significant steps for- ward, adding new facilities such as the new Biology Building constructed two years ago and the two new dormitories, Lehy and Hanselman Halls. 11ow being built. Greater opportunities have been accorded to Iloly Cross students in the armed forces by the establishment of an .Xir Force ROTCA' unit on campus, in addition to the present Navy group. Greater solidity has been as- sured the structure of Holy Vross by the gradual de- velopment of a firmer union among the .Xhnnni in coni- ing to the aid of their .xllllii Mater. Such varied practical concerns in a man whose life- long interest has been philosophy.testifies to the survival today of the energetic and expert versatility historically associated with the Fompany of Jesus. The Vlass of 1953 salutes its spiritual father and leader, Yery Rev- erend John A. U'Brien. SJ.. philosopher, educator. builder. and leader. 'll

I x I . Y , . I n , I I REVEREND JEREMIAH J. Doxoxixx. SJ. 1? 'Qc ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF Enveloped in the familiar microcosm of his own daily routine, it is rare that the student is ever truly aware of the vast and intricate functioning of the College in all its many activities and levels of operation. Order and efficiency too often become constants, seldom appre- ciated. But the task of those on whom the daily admin- istratio11 of the College falls is an enormous one, an unrelenting one, often thankless, and sometimes un- pleasant. They are the Planners, the Organizers, the Counselors, and the Disciplinarians. The place of these men of the Administrative Faculty is unquestionably large and, when fairly considered, very near to the heart of the Holy Cross System. Rm EREND FRANCIS J. HART, SJ.
