Well, after talking to the other members of the committee I found them at as much a loss as I as to where one should even start to begin to write a prophecy. So, after a few weeks of pondering the subject I returned home, no more the wiser. Still wondering I dropped into bed and was soon fast asleep. Just then a funny thing happened. I started to dream, not that dreaming is funny, but the way I dreamed. It seemed ever- thing was going away up, up to the year l96l. At first it was all just a little hazy like a television set that wnsn't tuned in just right, but it soon cleared and I saw these things. First, I saw Forrest Yancey. No, Forrest didn't go to Hollywood and replace Clark Gable, as some thought. But inste d is busily at work at his L00 acre farm near Pittsville. Yes, Forrest is still a happy bachelor. But before we leave the Yancey farm. Why it looks, why yes it is. A home for elderly unmarried women, and I believe it says just above the door H HIGH- LAND AND HARTH INCORPORATED. Yes, it seems that Celesta and Mary since they couldn't have Forrest wouldn't have anyone and have become two old maids, still hoping Forrest might someday change his mind about one or the other of them. Next, I saw Juanita Colster, she always was the only one of the whole class that had a surplus of brains. Well, it seems that she has now become the Nwoman of the Centuryn, replacing Einstein who retired last year when Juanita started giving him so much competition. He said figuring out the theory of the Atomic bomb was peanuts to trying to figure out how to outsmart Colster. Then I saw Joan Markley who has now become the English supervisor of College High School. Yes, Miss Fitzgerald retired last year in the year 1960 Now our scene shifts to the Warrensburg hospital where Schooley D. Wilcoxen M. D. and his head nurses, Dorothy Gudde, and Martha Tempel are engaged in performing a very delicate operation. It seems that Mrs. Cleo Burgard fthe former Doris McBurneyJ suffered a concussion when her husband hit her on , the head with a biscuit she had just baked. Last report she was coming along nicel . y Janie Scott now owns a fashionable dude ranch in Colorado. She specializes in teaching dudes to ride horses. Her latest pupil is Mary Ford, the new multimillionare. It seems Mary was out walking in her yard one day, when she accidently stepped in a little puddle of water, and what do you know, up popped a gusher, an oil well, of course. Eugene Jaeger and June Poort are now head escorts of the Nwill Go with Anything for a Price, Date BureauU. They usually live up to their name. I next saw Don Pryor who has become a radio and TV technician. I surely wished he had been around when this next dream came in for I saw John Himes as a happily married father with lb kids. But the part about his wife was just a little hazy and I never could quite make out just who she was. Jackie Lawson and Joan Sproat are writing a book entitled NHow to Win Friends and Influence College Menu. It no doubt will be a best seller among the C. H. S. girls. Rex Van Blarcum and Marion Clear have now become veterinarians. We always knew all their Nhorsingn around in Agriculture would lead them to something like that. .n.. ta I W.. l I I I ! 1 1 L 1 1 I i 4 P I 1 I 1 2 ! afwaZ?aiQJL:f5i4'p:wfLgiLQiLg5LSL4LLiu.xuaaa Now I saw the former Margaret Baile who was just leaving for India to marry her sixth husband, another soldier no doubt. Next I saw five new State Patrol men being sworn in to patrol the area of Warrensburg, and by looking real close I could make out Dale Repp, Charles Masoner, Warren Courtney, Don Neal, and Richard Hudspeth. thing they don't tolerate is speeding. Doris Dallman is now engaged as a Geography teacher and no wonder! She was the only one out of the whole class, who knew at the end of the year that the prime meridian was a line used to measure longitude and latitude and that it wasn't what Winston Churchill used to be. Next I saw a big neon sign saying UJohn's Ice Cream Shopn, and under that NBest Sundaes Evern, John Iseminger, owner. Yes,John now has his own soda fountain and can eat all the ice cream he wants now. But the last report was the more he eats the more weight he loses. Maybe it is because he knows that Coach just doesn't care now. Vivian Smith, now has her own dress shop. She designs and makes all the clothes herself. She and Buddy have been engaged for 9 years now but have never taken that last step into matrimony. It seems that they just don't be- lieve in quick marriages! Harland Osborne now has achieved world wide attention with his feats of wrestling. You can just refer to him as Strangler Osborne now. I next saw Mary Lou Pennington who has joined the Waves in hopes of landing for herself a tall, dark and handsome sailor. Last I heard she was ahnqs just one wave behind one all the time. Shirley Brown and Laverne Phillips are now employed as secretaries by Harley Mifflin and Elvin Prince's booming barber shop business. They report that the business is making just loads of money, but have never yet gotten Elva Tracy to shave off his mustache. Elva is still an old bachelor preferring to stay home and read his old love letters. I then saw the Suz-Ann beauty salon of which Sara McBurney and Ruby Paul are now owners and operators. Their motto is nWe'll make you beautiful or die tryingn. But the other day a feminine member of the faculty came in for the first time. Those wishing to pay their last tributes may do so at Sweeney-Phillip between the hours of 1:00 and l:30. Jemy Norcross is now working on a new system of bookkeeping. He still thinks there must be some easier way of getting the darned stuff to balance. The scene changed now and I saw the Top Hat Cafe where the owners Charles Tacke and Dale Bratten are installing a new floor show. It seems that their former entertainment which consisted of an act in which Robert Lee played the piano and Margaret Fox sang was very rapidly ruining their trade. Then I saw the old C. H. S. gym where Coach Roger Irle and Manager Thomas Hammond are giving their team a pep talk. By looking at the score board I see that the Colts are slipping, they have only a forty point lead on the team they are playing, but now I see that they are playing the C. M. S. C. Mules. Charles Martin is running a candy stand on the corner of the campus. He sells candy to all study hall going students. - when I had seen into all of my classmates' futures, I began to see the members of the faculty, but that didn't last long for I first saw Dr. Schott, sporting a 1960 model rocket ship. So real was the dream I saw that I made such a violent jump to get out of his way Cfor he came zooming right towards mel that I landed clear out of bed and hit the floor, thus ending my future seeing dreams. Maybe it was a good thing after all. Well, so long kids. Sweet dreams anyway! Watch out kids! One -f . ,....g Mya... ,, i Patsy Pres. J. Ea Lucil mdia to ,he area rles 1! One er! H. S. is fin- ished. Then I realize, too, that it couldn't have been possible without the untiring help of so many people. Juanita, my Hright hand mann has been in- dispensable. To Jemy and Forrest for seeing to our business and financial work, and to Jane and Tom for getting our advertisements, go a great big, UThank Youn. Then comes a very big job done by a swell helper, Daryl Dodson, the art editor. Mar- jorie and Will, always ready with their cameras, filled their duties as photographers most success- fully and completely. Doris and Marilynn, literary editors and Schooley, sports editor were most helpful in their positions. Then to the whole force of class editors, I say UThank Youn for work assignments well done. To Miss Conway, our advisor, who walked with us along the difficult road, encouraging us and guiding us toward our goal, the 1951 RHETORETTE, we express our sincerest gratitude. Cirefree and reminescent we now proceed into ALL RWQKS OF LIFE. Thank You, Margaret Baile 1951 RHETORETTE Editor fx, nfpaq,-gr -f,3::7.g i,ga1 J Q T N Wil?
