Senuor Class On September 14 1942, we entered Central Hugh School as unnocent U1 seventh graders and even though we were the babues of the school no one ever felt so grown up as we dud Luttle dud we realuze then that every ounce of our youthful stamuna and enthusuasm would be needed for the sux long years ahead One of our furst dutues as students of Central was to elect our class offucers Among those elected to the Student Councul was Tommy Q Bates I Preston who never dreamed he would hold that honor all four years at Central and end up as presudent of the student body un hus sophomore year The hughlught of the year was our class operetta Hansel and Gretel, wuth Bully Sroffe holdung one of the leads The produgy of the seventh grade was luttle Davud Kundug, who went around amazung everyone fteachers uncludedl wuth hus scuentufuc vocabulary Came the eughth grade and we were superuor' We actually had someone to look down on' The gurls began wearung lupstuck and developed a terrufuc crush on the A M A and the boys started notucung both Tommy Sears became the prude of the eughth grade by wunnung the slogan con test durung Fure Preventuon Week Sunce then he s become famous for wunnung Terroruzed vuctums of hazungs and proud possessors of Freshman Alley we left Junuor hugh days behund us and cntered the nunth grade Muss Jackson wull undoubtedly remem ber how Louann Kudd wowed em as presudent of the Belles Lettres Club The nunth grade brought the horrors of Latun and Algebra We ll never forget the dazed Latun students stumblung through the halls mumblung huc, haec hoc Speakung of Latun, ohn Shaws wolf ush unstuncts were unearthed as a result of thus course On the second day of chool, whule glancung through the Latun text book he found the word for love and he Joyfully trotted around the halls dusplayung hus new found knowledge to all the gurls Our class was mughty proud when Ellen Talley captured honors for Washungton county at the state 4 H Club Conference By the tenth grade Tacky Day had become a much loved annual event un our Central daze We all burned the mudnught oul tryung to dream up outland ush costumes and un our mudst there ap peared everythung from kungs to tramps The hughlught of the day was the Tacky Day assembly wuth Bob Damon reugnung as kung for a day By thus tume we had perfected our technuques at skuppung wuthout gettung I-lustory caught lWell at least most of us hadl But even the best of us had our weak moments and well never forget those long hours of makeup tume un Mr Lees offuce Our sophomore lune party was hular uous but tears flooded the school as we bud our funal adueu to Central un our farewell assembly Upon arruvung at College Hugh from the hub bub at Central, we were awed at the sulent halls whuch greeted us However we felt that the soberuty was befuttung to our new posutuon as dugnufued junuors One famuluar thung un the new sur roundungs was Mr Roberts who followed us over from Central to be our pruncupal agaun I ust how much punushment can 1 min take99j We started the year off wuth a bang by dusplayung our dramatuc talents un the all school play, The More the Merruer It was un thus play that Austun Hunt gauned hus reputatuon as the shoutung senator and hes been shoutung hus way un and out of plays ever sunce Our Junuor class play Howdy Stranger was a howlung sucess too and we earned enough money to show the senuors a wonderful prom We Junuors also got a chance to show what we could do un the College Hugh unks, the second all school revuew The memory of those beautuful 'H costumes whuch almost dudn t arruve on tume wull haunt us forever It was durung the fall of our junuor ye1r that our long dreamed of Teen Town the Y Hut had uts grand openung We were proud of our new recreatuon center and our class had a lot to do wuth uts success The school band and debate team un whuch junuors partucupated won honors for our school durung the year The band won the sweepstakes at the Tru State Musc Festuval, and the speech students brought home a nuce trophy as part of theur loot from the Northeastern Dustruct Speech contest Bartlesvulle celebrated uts fuftueth annu versary on Aprul the Furst and College Hugh students staged a Puoneer Day honor of the bug event The two hour assembly that day was unforgettable com plete wuth a realustuc can can done by members of our class, Ann Marue Doorn bos Ann Ruppel and Carolyn Neal We regretted that school was dusmussed at noon, but made the best of the sutuatuon cmd 'attended the bug parade downtown The College Hugh float was one of the most outstandung, representung a comparu son between the puoneer and modern schools At last We made ut' After fuve long strenuous years we were SENIORS the bug guns around school Strangely enough our many attempts at beung dugnufued were unsuccessful for we dudnt feel or act much older than we dud fuve years ago -4 We all had fun watchung those poor junuors and theur hularuous attempts to gaun fur t place un the cafeterua lune But 'us we laughed behund theur backs we secretly remember that just a year ago we had been employung the same practuces and devuses ourselves Our football team was somethung to be proud of thus year makung a better than average showung Our basketball team also provuded some mughty excutung games durung the year and even tho the score was not always un our favor we are proud of our boys Royalty was at uts best thus year wuth Betty Burrus and Ann Ruppel beung crowned football and basketball queens respectuvely Beverly Stevens 1947 48 band queen was one of the fuve candu dates for queen of the Buson Relay Races held by the B Club of the Oklahoma Baptust Unuversuty There were brauns as well as beauty runnung around the halls Wuzard Carter Revard was our candudate to the Tulsa Unuversuty Goung To College uuz and also won an award un the Pepsu Cola Scholarshup Contest College Hugh was proud of Charlotte Carpenter, too, who won an honorable mentuon un the same contest One of the most outstandung senuors was Louann Kudd who receuved the D A R Good Cutuzenshup Award We welcomed back Sadue Hawkuns Day after a years rest All of the Dausy Maes and Lul Abners runnung around school made Dogpatch seem a very real place The sock dance held that evenung un the gym, a new experuence for many was a super duper success Wuth the help of the junuors we put on our all school play Green Stockungs Extra colossal was our senuor play The Man Who Came to Dunner We were mughty proud of thus show and had every rught to be Austun Hunt had us rollung un ausles wuth hus part as The Man The props were wonderful and thus us one play well never forget The junuor senuor prom turned out to be a royal affaur' Our last grand march the swushung skurts and the heavenly orchestra wull be cherushed memorues for ever In spute of the long antucupated end of school as the year drew to a close most of us were regretful to end our years at College Hugh XVe funally began to realuze fully just what outstandung people w had been assocuatung wuth for the past sux years Baccalaureate and Commencement the long awauted and dreamed of days funal ly arruvedll But wuth them came tears and regrets that our hugh school days had come to an end In Splle of all the truals and trubulatuons the ruch fruend shups we gauned and the many experuences we
