7 COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN tHE CIIY Of NEW YORK SCHOOL OF DENTAL AND ORAL SURGERY DENTAL COLUMBIAN ' 83 C PRIMUS INTER PARES - S? Contents Dedication 2 Administration 5 Faculty 16 Supporting Staff 41 Seniors 45 Underclasspersons 106 Dental Hygiene 134 Contributors 159 Dedication Dr. Anthony Curinga Dr. Anthony Curinga was described in his own yearbook as always ready with a smile and a pat on the back, just as the solder began to flow. Twenty years in practice has not diminished his humor and warmth. Dr. Curinga is always around when needed, (although breaking through his horde of followers is not easy). His style of teaching makes learning enjoyable, without compromising high standards. When things don ' t go according to plans, (as they often don ' t) he is always there with an encouraging word or a bad joke, which is much needed. Thank you Dr. Curinga for making Dental School memorable, and for sharing yourself with us. Dr. Mark Tepper Dr. Mark Tepper is an instructor whose innovation and persistence have resulted in a modernization of Prosthodontic theory and practice taught at Columbia. As a person, Dr. T ' s warmth and enthusiasm are always evident, and his informal manner of teaching lends itself to an environment in which learning is more pleasurable. Dr. Tepper is commonly seen after school hours, helping his students overcome the trials and tribulations of dental school, and preparing them for practice in the ' real world. ' Thank you. Dr. Tepper for your dedication and honesty, and for teaching us to strive for perfection. We are honored to become colleagues with a man like you. Columbia University in the City of New York | New York, N.Y. 10032 SCHOOL OF DENTAL AND ORAL SURGERY 630 West 168th Street Office of the Dean October 29, 1982 Dear Class of 1983, Each of you is delighted to see your long eight years in college and dental school come to an end. Your thoughts turn to the beginning of a new life as a non-student. For the first time there will be no one looking over your shoulder. You are anxious to begin to make in- dependent decisions in your chosen field, and looking forward to the challenges dentistry will have for you. The faculty is happy for you, but sad to see you go. For each stu- dent brings something unique to our school. Each of you has enriched our school a little more each year as you studied here. The school be- comes stronger because you have poured your individual talents into its very fiber. So, we will miss the opportunity to interact with you. While we realize coming back to the school is one of the last thoughts in your mind on graduation day, the time will come when you want to inter- act again in an educational environment. As you begin to make your decisions as a professional you will find the desire to seek council, learn more, or just plain unload some of the complex issues confronting all of us on some- one else. The faculty wants you to know that the someone else can always be us . The graduates of Columbia have made special contributions to our profession. You will too. Please accept our best wishes for a long, pro- ductive, and happy career. Sincerely, (2m ( v ' a s lc Allan J. Fo micola, D.D.S. Dean Administration Dr. S. Horowitz Assoc.
