DEDICATION The man to whom this year ' s edition of our yearbook is dedicated brings to mind some words written by Miguel Cervantes, seemingly for him, when he said, No man is more than another, unless he does more than another. For this is truly a man who has distinguished himself by doing more. This man is Dr. Jerome Zane. Dr. Zane has traveled a great part of our journey through school and he has continually demonstrated an acute awareness of both our clinical and personal needs. He has consistently encouraged us to strive for that highest degree of perfection which will someday help us approach excellence in our chosen pro- fession. His unique manner of approaching our clinical uncertainties as a teaching experience with its main objective being comprehension and eventual perfection, have made all of us his gracious admirers. It seems then natural that our memories of school have mention of such a special person. Therefore, it is with a great deal of pleasure, gratitude, and honor that we, the graduating class of 1976, dedicate our yearbook to Dr. Jerome Zane, the teacher, the man, and our friend. How can we explain the noted refusal of our Nation ' s Father to publicly expose his pearly whites? Many claim it was because he was condemned to wear a special denture which upon the slightest giggle might spring out of his mouth, or reveal the fact that his teeth actually belonged to a hippo. This is fact, and it is also fact that 200 years ago Den- tistry ranked lowest among all healing arts. There existed no Dental Schools, no form of organization or guidelines and no principles or precedent. Dentistry instead came from an assembly of barbers, tooth drawers, surgeons and charlatans. (Is it conceiveable that Dr. Freeway was fighting for his space during those Dark Ages of Dentistry?) Thus began American Dentistry; and it has been 200 years of American Dentistry that have made many aware of its vast future, 2 00 years of American Dentistry that have left many proud and some frustrated.
