TO THE CLASS OF 1976 On behalf of the faculty and the supporting staff I extend to the Class of 1976 the happiest congrat- ulations on having earned the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery and I offer the warmest welcome as a full-fledged member of the dental profession. Yours is an especially noteworthy class — THE CLASS OF ' 76 — THE BICENTENNIAL CLASS! But it is not the historical factor alone which clothes your class with a unique and memorable mantle! Rather, it is the pride with which we identify your class, based on superior scholastic attain- ments, mature professionalism and unselfish contributions to the community. Forgive me however, for emphasizing that the happiness of graduation must be tempered with the realization that as a health professional you have inherited a huge responsibility, namely, that of con- stantly improving your knowledge and skills by a continuous program of on-going education, one which only ends with termination of life. I am confident that our faculty has succeeded in firmly implanting the ideals of dentistry but what is more important, I have the utmost faith that your careers will create admirable reflections of dental edu- cation at Columbia University and that we will constantly derive pride from this Class of ' 76!
