First. as a state supported :ommunity college. tuition .tt COA is rather i nexpensiye. and persons mer 65 are not re- quired to pay tuition. ln V737 an ln-state resident could attend college full time for 381 plus the cost of books. Other uniyersities cost at ' least three times more for the same basic ed- tucation. A person could attend COA for ttyo tears and effectiyely haye their third year at a 'four year institution free. Secondly. as a two year community college. 'COA professors are not required to publish or perishu. They are more interested in teaching ,classes and haye time to spend with their stu- i,dents one-onrone. At a major l.'niyersity. pro- 'fessors hate less time for teaching. They are hired. not for their desire to teach. but for their ,ability to do research. because that's the way ithe L'niyersity makes money. Also. professors at -'major uniyersities are so far adyanced in their Nfields. that making lover level courses un- tderstandable can be difficult for them. Courses 'required in the tirst two years of college are the same whereyer you go. So. you are better off ,- .,. QU' s . 1 Some students can only attend at night attending a small college like COA. The College Transfer Degree program was specifically de- signed with this in tnind. The College Transfer program is flexible and indiyidualiled. Many undecided freshmen can explore career lields by' taking a number of general courses. Those students that know which field they' intend to major in can enter one of the three progams of study in the College Transfer Division. The programs of study in this diyision lead to associate degrees in Science. Fine Arts. and Liberal Arts. Major curriculum choices include Agriculture. Computer Science and Computer Technology. Dental. Engineering. Forestry. Medical. Pharmacy. Veterinary Science. Cen- eral Science. Art. Drama. Music. Business Ad- ministration. Business Education. Elementary' Education. Law. Liberal Arts. Mathematics. Secondary Education. and Social Work. Some students are satisfied with their as- sociates degree while others work toward other associates. Most students taking transfer Courses go on to four year institutions and graduate with baccalaureate degrees. which is the purpose of the associate degree program in the College Transfer division ol' COA. lRighllDrafting classes arenit all that bad . . .
