Clifford Tretick attended the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Oberlin College Con- servatory of Music. Mr. Tretick was named by the 1981 National Flute Association Competition as one of the top three international flutists under the age of 27. ln 1978 he won the Indiana-Aspen Scholarship Competition to attend the Aspen Colorado Music Festival, and in 1981 he was a lirst place winner of the North Carolina School of Arts Concerto Com- petition which featured his as soloist with the N.C. School of the Arts orchestra under the guest di- rector ofWilliam Smith, assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. While attend the N.C. School of the Arts, he was the recipient of the most prestigious award bestowed by the school: the Nancy S. Reynolds Merit Scholarship given to the most outstanding returning student in mu- src. During the summers of 1976, 1977 and 1979 he toured italy and Germany with the N.C. School of the Arts International Festival Orchestra. Mr. Tretick has appeared as soloist in various PBS television specials involving culture and the fine arts in North Carolina and the Southeast.
