M 3,55 Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, the Circle K provides a program of leadership and character-building for the college man such as the sponsoring service club offers the professional and business man. The qualities of scholarship, good citizenship, leader- ship and initiative are stressed. Personal contacts are made between the professional and business leaders of the Kiwanis and the Circle K college men. Both organi- zations use the motto, We Build. Developed from an idea conceived byjay N. Emerson in 1936 and developed into an actuality in 1947 after he became President of Kiwanis International, the first Circle K club was organized at Carthage College, Carthage, Illinois. The number of Circle K clubs has gradually spread throughout the United States and Canada. Kiwanis does not sponsor these clubs in order to build future Kiwanians. Their aim is to build good future leaders and citizens in the business and professionalworld. Each member is given a chance to show his stuff. Friendly rivalry within the organization keeps each member ready and eager to do his part. Though not an honorary society, it is an honor to belong. The contacts and friendships made in the Circle K environment do much to mold a young college man into the type of citizen that every community needs. Circle K's motto, We Build, is just that-the building blocks of character, ideals, and perspective needed to enter the larger business and professional world. v G wr ff-w .1 V. 4 l fArf wa' ' v .mv-, .
