2ND IN DMRC Way to go, Brian! The Colfax High School Baseball team finished second in the DMRC baseball standings this year. Having another fine year although not quite fine enough the Tigers finished at 11-3 in the conference behind Pleasantville who was 13-1. A very talented group of juniors and sophomores.along with seniors Tony Thompson and Bobby Nichols the team made a brilliant run for the title. Three-year letterman and captain Tony Thompson hit .344 and provided fine leadership while playing cen- terfield. Tony was all-conference first team as an outfielder. Brilliant, junior pitcher Jeff Borts led the team in wins with 9 while having a fine E.R.A. of 1.21 and also hit around .300 for the season. Jeff was all DMRC first team as a pitcher. Junior catcher Todd Brown also gained first team all-conference recognition at that position. Todd batted .358 and improved his throwing greatly. Paul Deaton, junior infielder, was the other all conference first team performer at an infield position. Junior first baseman Brian Smith earned 2nd team DMRC recognition while improving his hitting greatly and playing very steady in the infield. Sophomore, Brian Wilson was the final DMRC choice gaining honorable mention as an infielder. Brian can be a great one if he con- tinues to improve. Junior Kelly Warner, who played third base all season did a respectable job and with a lot of hard work could attain DMRC honors next year. Sophomore, Randy Mindham, a starter in left field and Jamie Lewis will be big factors on a DMRC championship as will Todd Wilson (infielder-outfielder), Brian Townsend (infielder) and outfielder, Todd Haack. Freshman Tim Wilson, could also be a vital factor in the 1983 season. Colfax finished 17-8 on the season with several close games included in the eight losses. Good pitching and strong defense were instrumental this year and with im- proved hitting in 1983 a DMRC title looks to be a possibility.
