Apland, C. Hadsall, E. Ward, R. Blair, L. Pace. During the summer of 1982, 13 students from Colfax High School journeyed to sunny Spain with Intra- America Student Programs. Chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Pace and Mrs. Dolores Rankin. Three students from Ankeny High School joined the group for the trip. After arriving in Madrid, the Iowa group met with students from Min- nesota, Montana, and West Virginia. The tours were conducted on bus by two terrific bus teachers — Miss Kate Hathaway and Miss Kathy Oleson from St. Paul, Minnesota. The students stayed in Madrid for six days and experienced many things including a visit to the Royal Palace, a visit to the Tapestry Factory, a trip to the Prado Museum, meals in the Mesones, a bullfight, and browsing in the many interesting shops. In Segovia, the travelers saw a 2,000- year old aquaduct and bartered with the gypsies. They also saw the monument. Valley of the Fallen, built in memory of Franco and the Civil War soldiers. Toledo, the home of El Greco; Avila, the last wall-enclosed city in Spain; and Maria Luisa Park in Sevilla were visited and admired. Two days were spent in Salamanca. The students enjoyed touring the University of Salamanca, visiting the cathedrals, shopping, swimming, and eating a special dinner. In Caceres, Columbus’ tomb and the beautiful cathedral he was buried in were viewed. The travelers stayed in a hotel along the Mediterranean Coast in Malaga for four days. While there, they visited an Arab fortress, swam in the sea, and shopped. The Alhambra and Generalife and the tombs of the Catholic Kings were observed in Granada. Several students experienced the full-day excursion to Morocco in Tangier, Africa. Sights included snake charmers, the Casbah or Marketplace, a bellydancer, and camel rides. The charming village of Mijas was investigated and an evening Flamenco dance was seen as the last day of the trip was spent in Spain. The group left for the United States on June 24. They were anxious to return home but a little sad to leave the friends and country they had become accustomed to. ' —

Davis, S. Mindham, J. Wilson, K. Yazel. K. Russell. Mr. Lindsay, Coach. The 1982 summer season for the Colfax Tigerettes proved to be one of “ups and downs”. Although finishing the season with an 11-12 won-lost record, the Tigerettes were able to capture the Sectional Championship. The sectional tournament was also held in Colfax, a tribute to the fine softball complex that we have. Injuries played a key role in the summer season for Coach Darrell Lindsay’s Tigerettes. Jodi Warrick, Keslie Russell and Marlene Berg all missed parts of the season with in- juries. “Injuries are a part of the game”, indicated Coach Lindsay “and the fact that we were able to remain com- petitive during these, shows the fine team effort that all of our players gave.” At season’s end the Tigerettes received many post season awards. Senior Keslie Russell and junior Sara Davis were named first team All- Conference, while Jodi Warrick was named to the second unit. Miss Davis was named to the Central District first team for class 1A schools while Miss Russell and Miss Warrick were second -.earn picks. And finally at the state level Miss Russell was given Special Mention while Miss Davis and Miss Warrick received Honorable Mention. The Junior Varsity squad had a very fine summer campaign with a 9-3-1 record.
