The team won 2 lost 5 and tied l under new headooach Mr. Fleener and assis- tant coach Mr. Cashman. The team earned hth place in the Hawkeye Seven Conference. The highlights of the season was the opening game in which the Tigers won 7 - 0, and the homecoming game played before the largest crowd of the season which saw the home team tie Madrid 6 - 6. John Hunk mel and Francis Millburn were elected by the squad to be Co-Captains. The Colfax Eleven was well represented in the All-Conference selection, Raymond Thompson was selected first-team guard, Francis Millburn was 39100595 SOC0nd't08m fullback, and the honorable mentions went to Larry Marshall center, Jack williams end, and Bobby Franz halfback. That evening the high school gathered at the football field for a pep rally. A huge bonfire, started by the lighting of the Queen's votes of the afternoon, completely burned the Madrid dummy. After yelling, singing, and speeches, the student body was led by the cheerleaders ina snake dance through the business district of town to the Star Theatre where several yells and the school song brought the rally to a close. On Friday afternoon at 2:30 the parade for the homecoming was held. A fairly large crowd gathered Friday evening for the game wiU1Madrid. The first half of the game, having little action, ended O to O. At the half time Betty Halverson, a senior, was crowned Queen by Loyal Johnson, King. The Queen's attendants were Doris Hale and Shirley Shuey, LaRM White, and Leona Brunk. Loyal presented each with a corsage of red roses. In the third quarter Madrid recovered the ball after a fumble by Colfax and made their only touchdown. On the kick-off Francis Millburn Colfax fullback, received the ball and ran 90 yards for a touchdown. The game ended with a 6 to 6 tie. Following the game a Homecoming Dance, was held in the gymnasium. The dance was well attended by the student body, faculty, alumni, and visitors who danced to music by John Roberts' orchestra. Though the Freshman Initiation All-High Mixer was scheduled to begin at 7:00, thefirst timid Freshman poked his nose cautiously through the gymnasium doors at 8:00. Under the direction of some of the faculty, special dances started the even- ing in which almost everyone, willingly or unwillingly joined. This is a group of students who operate the movie projector and tape recorder, take pictures, and hdp teachers use the many films and materials to show to their classes. Future plans are to set up a music program for hot lunch, keep add- ing to the nLittle Movien, and get more equipment. Juanita Russell is selling lipstick to the Ubangie Tribe in South Africa. Pat Roberts is now peddling ice cream in Madison Square Garden. Lowell Kono is now in business with Raymond Faidley in their irai and steel business. Mostly STEAL! Leland Kono who was voted least likely to succeed is now the sec- retary to the secretary to the secretary to the secretary of good old CHS. Donna Mae Jones now has a profitable little business selling water in Death Valley. FLASH! Loyal Johnson alias Wolie' is still on the loose, Every girl is advised to stay in after dark. Betty Halverson is now selling 'Come On To My House' her own pri- vately published magazine. Jack Hurmuel is traveling around thecountry lecturing on the evils of spirits. Bethene Brunk is now designing fur coats for skinless dogs. Bob Brown is running for 'Dog Catcher' on the socielltst ticket John Borts is now running his own private lonely hearts club. And last but notleast we have wayne Adair who isengaged in beauty agriculture for homely women, Wayne always said hewould be a farmer, OUR FOUR YEARS The long awaited day came when our class entered high school as Freshles. This year passed with many new exciting events'taking place. The seniors gave an all high mixer dedicated to the fresh en on tl1e day of initiation. This enabled us to become more acquainted with some of the upper classmen. In our sophomore year the majority of our class concentrated on our grades. This year many of the kids in our class were active ln sports and other school activities. Our junior year was a time of heavy burdens, but we conquered them with flying colors. We presented the manor class playtitled, 'A LITTLE BORE!.' Toward the end of the year we received our almighty class rings and sponsored the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet. Finally--the year we were all loaking forward to arrived. We had our pictures taken, caps and gowns fitted and did all the other things which come from being a senior. Many of us will go on to college or to other careers but no matter what, we will never forget goodold C. H. S. This yearbook presents a portrayal in words and pictures of the year's events and, in effect, a listing of accomplishments. Having this in black and white and pic- ture, is nog in itseln sufficient to leave with us a lasting memory of our year just passed. We must all be aware that a faculty with new students, and students with a new faculty worked and grew together successfully. The year has seen wholesome growth in student government, constant display of good sportmanship in athletics,and increasinglygood scholar- ship.
