uscc zglz lcglzis MARCHING BAND The Marchmg Band had been rather neglected unt1l two years ago Then Mr Hathaway revrved 1t and the band has been takmg long str1des 1n the held of success It has been supervrsed IH summer by Mr Hefty formerly of Baxter and 1n the fall has swung mto the 11ne of act1v1ty 1mmed1ately It has marched for many occasrons such as the Drake Relays the Nat1onal Corn Huskmg Con test street and pep parades and the Band Festlval It won a DIVISION One Rat mg at Albxa and attended the Nat1onal Regronal Musxc Contest at St Paul Mm nesota It has also performed for numerous football games show1ng spec1al band maneuvers Th1s sprlng R Sherratt I Fatland B Mann T Whrte F Bmk erd I Martm and W Norvell have been added to the March1ng Band PEP BAND Thts year we have had a spec1al pep band for pep meetmgs and the num erous games when the full band was not avarlable Bes1des pep meetmgs and basketball games they have accompan1ed the basketball teams to Mrngo They have played everythmg from marches to sw1ng musrc A new Gene Krupa was dlscovered 1D Bob Sherratt who fascxnated the crowd Wllh h1S br1ll 1ant drurnmlng The pep band conslsts of Ted Hannxng and Iun1or Deskm cornet Bob Han1ng horn Mr Hathaway barlton and bells Rex Mlller bass Betty Cross E Iune Dav1s Beverly Robbins and Lue Gene Betts saxophones Iohn Fatland and Howard Bell clarlnet Raymond Mlller and Bob Sherratt drums OTHER MUSIC HIGHLIGHTS Early th1s fall a tw1r11ng class was started These people were featured at the Colfax Nevada basketball game an a spec1al exh1b1t1on The solo tw1r11ng was done by Iean Mlk9S Barbara Kelpp Darlen Howell and Katherxne Wlng The muslc department has spec1al groups of muslcrans such as the clar1net quartette the saxophone quartette the vocal sextette and the g1rls tr1o The clarxnet quartette Iohn Eatland Howard Bell Leona W1ll1ams and Max Cal houn the saxophone quartette El1za lune Dav1s Beverly Robbrns Betty Cross and Lu Gene Bette the tr1o Margaret Cross Pr1sc1lla Forsythe and Ioan Sayre A clar1net solorst Iohn Fatland and a prano solo1sts Mary E Bell competed at the Pre State meet at West Des Moxnes Aprxl 3 4 and 5 New equ1pment has been added thxs year to the band two tympanl song bells a barrtone saxophone an alto clar1net and a bell lyre for the Marchmg Band 3-fn 0 o s - 1 . . , I .
