I picked one up and blew the dust from it. I opened the faded cover and turned through the first couple of pages and saw the classmates of my senior year. Now seven years later I looked back and began to think of the different ways we had parted. As I looked over my classmates, I realized that Colfax School has grown con- siderably since I graduated. It now has 2,000 students, and since Mr. Bolen has retired at an early age, Dale Marshall is principal. R.J.Welborn is his assistant, and Margaret Pegram is his secretary. Barbara Gray is teaching the first grade, and Lillias Smith is the home economics teacher for the high school. As I saw Becky Westmoreland's picture,I remembered that she was a private secretary and the wife of a well-known coach. For such splendid playing, Adrian Dean's ball club won him a trip to Europe last week. In the hugh metropolis of the Carolinas, John Thompson has become pastor of one of the largest churches with Sarah Marshall as organist and J erryVonCannon, choir director. John Potts is the chief fireman at the Colfax Fire Department, and Dickie Warf has just been elected Fireman of the Year. My eyes gazed to Malinda Gossett's picture, who was the private nurse for Mr. Eisenhower during his long stay at Walter Reed Hospital. While looking over the picturesl saw Ann Stafford, who is the head nurse at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. My eyes fell upon Marie Bull who had just finished an interior decorating job for Pat Boone's new home. Then I saw Ray Smith and Neil Morgan, and I remembered that they were joint owners of one of the biggest ranches in Texas. Aslglanced over my own picture, I was reminded of the enjoyment I received from my work as president of Superior Airlines. Brenda Tucker has been in charge of training stewardesses ever since the company began. I have just given my stenographer, Barbara Flynt, a paid vacation to Hawaii. She is staying in Wayne Knight's giant skyscraper hotel, and Judy Simmons and Carolyn Bull are nightly performers there. Also Mary Ann Venable's children are doing the Charleston as an extra added attraction. The newest part to the hotel, the Re- ducing Salon and Beauty Salon, opened last week with Betty Lou Wells and Nancy Jo Lankford as new owners. Linda Atkins is instructing women in the reducing salon. Iclosedthe covers of the book, but it did not close the memories in my mind. I knew they could never be destroyed. IN MEMQRIAM ,,ggw,.: On January 9, 1959, Linda Carol Tucker, 15, departed from her busy life on earth to a richer, fuller life in eternity. She was loved byallherfriends for her pleasant smile and cheer- ful attitude, and she was certainly an asset to her school and community. We shall never forget her: the nice things she did, the happy moments we shared with her, when she served at the Beta Club Banquet, became President of the Sophomore Class, Treasurer of the F. H. A., cheerleader, and a Beta Club member. These are only a few of her attainments. She shall live in our hearts and minds as we remember She is not dead, she is just away. 28 SOPHOMQRE Colon Atkins Marie Atkins Roger Ballard Richard Bolen Carol Brown Judy Cox Rebecca Cox Alice Crutchfield Vernon Dillon Nancy Gossett Hilda Hiatt Douglas Hodges Grady Jeffreys Lana Kiser Albert Lamb Janice Lemar Wayne Marshall Howard McCollum Wayne Pegram Q, A v- C.
