As a welcome we were given a Senior-Frosh show and a Sophomore- Frosh party. Later both were reciprocated. As Sophomores we gave the Frosh a welcoming party and through our ensrgy won the honor of being the top class in the Blue and Gold tag sale. Our Junior year was a more active one. We gave a very successful prom en- titled Some Enchanted Evening, held a scrap drive. and last of all. put on the Junior-Senior Banquet. ln our Senior year we at last gained the heights which had seemed so distant when we were timid green freshman. To begin the year we gave the little Frosh at theater party and later had several parties of our own, sponsored the Homecoming Activities, and to top things, presented the senior ball with the theme. This year Colfax had one of its most outstanding choruses. As usual the chorus presented a spring and a fall concert. as well as presenting a program of Chrlstmas music at the annual high school Christmas concert. Following its fall concert this talented group presented a complete program at th: St. John high school, and following its spring concert, sang several enjoyable numbers at the county music festival at Palouse. One ol the biggest and most important events was the annual Eastern Wash- ington music festival held in Spokane. The three college professor judges unani- mously awarded the chorus a Superior rating and praised the group and its di- rector. Blaine L. Harbaugh. for the well-polished manner in which it presented its numbers. This spring they received a superior rating at the Eastern Washington Music Festival in Spo- kane. the third consecutive year for such a rating. The boys are: Ben Luce, first tenor: Gary Heils- berg, second tenor: Ben Stueckle, baritone: Ronald Moore, bass. BLAINE HARBAUGH Blaine Harbaugh has been the skillful director of the chorus for six years and band director for his first three years here. ln this time his patience and hard work have been responsible for his excellent choruses, en- sembles. and soloists who have always received high ratings at contests and much applause at concerts. This year in the Eastern Music Con- test. all of his four entries received Superior or first place ratings, which, needless to say, is indicative of his ability in the musical field. GI RLS' TRIO The Girls' Trio has appeared at different or- ganizations throughout the city of Colfax this past year. and they took part in the Eastern Washington Music Festival in Spokane where they received a superior rating, the fifth year for this honor for the girls' ensemble. His foot- ball squad rounded into a top flight eleven. In boxing FeIber's mitt team placed fourth in thc state championship tournament at Mt. Vernon and grabbed off second spot in the district meet. Felber put track back on its feet this spring and brighter things are promised in the uture. LEN PYNE Switching to basketball and baseball, we have Leonard Pyne, who has been head man in those two sports for five years now. Mr. Pyne's basketball quintet had a better than average season and although his job in baseball this year has been one of rebuilding. the team promises to be one of good calibre in the near future. WILLARD KAISER Willard Kaiser, assistant basketball mentor. turned in his usual fine job of preparing the underclassmen in the basketball fundamentals and getting them ready for future varsity as- signments. Also deserving credit is Mr. Everett Taylor. who skippered the golf and tennis squads to more than enough of their share of good play- ing and victories. Don Jacobs. school libra- rian. assisted Mr. Felber in track and his valu- able suggestions and training were of great as- sistance to the thin-clad squad. .,.,,s. ,...,. Other good point gainers have been Tony Hepler, shot and 100 yard dashg Brian I-lepler, javeling Earl Enos, shot and discus. Colfax has had more meets this year than it has had in some time and as our teams have become more successful, there has been a growing interest in this activity. The baseball team under the direction of Len Pyn: has had a fairly good sea- son. lt was not quite as good, however. as last year when they won the County Championship in a game that saw them defeat Steptoe 5 to 3. The team this year lost three of its first five games, but since then has won five straight. As the squad has only four seniors it looks good for the next year. The team only lacked experience and having gained it has really gone places. With only a few games left the boys look very good. l952 SEASONS RECORD Colfax ..... 8 Garfield .... 3 Colfax ,..,. l3 Palouse ...., .... . 5 Colfax ...,, 5 Colton .,.. ..., . 8 Colfax ..,, l Endicott 7 Colfax ,.v,, .. 2 Pullman ,,.. ..,., 7 Colfax ..,,, 9 St. John ..., ...A . 3 Colfax .,.., ,.... 7 Lacrosse 0 Colfax . .....
