Student executive Councifl, 'Sfmt Semehten ll'ith more representatives in the Student Council than any other time in the school's history. democracy was stressed to the utmost in student government at Colfax High School this year. lYith the revised constitution adopted at the end of the l938-39 school year, the student hody was divided into twelve groups. Each group was allowed one representative to the student council. which meant that each class had three representatives. The council representatives carried the demands of their groups to the council, which met each Tuesday and Thursday, for consideration. Re- gardless of the demand or complaint laid hefore the governing body, fullest consideration was given to it, and prompt action invarialmly taken to remedy anything that warranted immediate action. .Xt the first meeting after the council's consideration, the council rep- resentative would take hack to his home room a report on what was done. lf the first request laid before the council was not acted upon, the group presenting it was permitted to ask for a reconsideration, or to amend their petition. On a whole, the home rooms were extremely satisfactory. Under this new method of giving all students a voice in the student government, each student in the entire school was given many chances for participation in activities that were not offered prior to last year. lfollowing each husiness session of the home room groups, which met on Tuesday and 'l'hursday mornings for twenty minutes during the first sem- ester. a discussion period was held on some timely topic or prohlem.
