We had an enrollment of sixty-one students. Our government hed just entered the war and we answered the cell for paper and gathered the most in our school. 1he drive lasted for only two weeks and we collected 7489 pounds of old newspspers,.he were honored by winning the Oratorlcal and Popularity oontests.0ur declaimer was Marjorie Moseley and for Popularity we made Artie Mae Phllllps,a member of the Senior Class,win-Our lnstructor,Mr-Ford was called to the colors and Mrs. C.C.Sampson was given our class.John Devld Browning was our first class President. New students jolnlng us ln our freshman year were Charles Hall,Dorothy Qmlth,wocdle Porter,Pannle Porter,and John Cartwright. Our Sophomore year started with an enrollment of fifty-three.lew students were M rtle Henderaon,Lll1ie Lampkln,Illa Be1!ord,llllle Mae Behl,llla Rae J0e,Dlxle Lena 1erry,snnle Laure Barnes and Helen Hell. Mattle Mae Price was our contestant for Miss Green Hornet and ve wen second pluoe.A few of the Sophomores went out for the football team.0ur social highlight was a 'Big Christmas Party given by our homeroom teacher In the Declamatlon contest Halter Dewltty and Clsradlne Moore won first plaoes ln girls and boys divisions Marjorie Moseley was made President of the first Trl Hi Y ln our School Sophomores in the band were Doris Stoney,Gsrtrude Terrell, Emma Fladys K1ng,Ruth Stella Minor John Brownlng,Marjorle Moseley,lugene Alexander,Alonso Stoney,Moses Rlohardson,and Clarence Johmson We had a pleasant school year the Junior Class gor under way with about forty five members Some had moved to defense work areas We were getting to know each other quit! well when Archie Jackson came to us from Taft Clarence Johnson wss made President Then came the football season with Charles Brexton,John Cart wright ,Charles Hall,Clarence Johnson,Eugane Murray,Woodle ?orter,golng out for the team Mis Green Hornet C ntest a won by the Juniors llth Marjorie Moseley,Dorothy Smith, and Rosle Lee Vhlte as Majorettes I Declamatlon contest Dorothy Smith won first prize The Junior class sponsored Juanita Bllllps as their contestant for Mlss Solomon Coles and won at P airle View University John Browning placed first in the State Deolamatlon oontest,and a female quartet made up of Doris Stoney Marjorie Moseley,Ruth Minor, and Myrtle Henderson won first place in singing We worked hard to heve the best Prom ever presented by any class On this occablon the gym was beautifully decorated ea 'Little Mexico' Everyone really enjoyed our Spsnlsh rlasta Sl Senor! Our Senior year started early,Sept 3,end we were anxious for the opening lew students who enrolled with us were Lila Armstead,Delores 1hompson,Massie Lewls,Velma taylor,Delmas Whitaker, Stewart Ihomes, Ruth Mc1ntyre,and Lorlne McGowan Those transferred from other rooms were llnston Charleston,1helme Jackson,end James lllllams John lrownlng was elected President again The Seniors were active affairs this our last year Charles Braxton was Captain of the team and President of the Student Council John Cartwright was of the basketball team and llla Belford was President of the ln campus Iootball Captain Peul Roberson Culture Clul Fannie Porter invited us to a Barbecue at her heme in raft,Texes 1he Seniors aooepted the lnwltation and chartered .
