Our Council is a member of the WASC and four members attended the meeting this year at Superior. The Installation of Officers was presented to the student body to acquaint them with the Council members. This year the Council made the arrangements for Homecoming, Red Cross Drive, Polio Drive and Auction, Clothing Drive, Hungarian Relief Collection, Student Break, Hall Moniters, Christmas Program, locker inspection and the Pen Point Party. Record dancing was sponsored for the students enjoyment after basketball games and the Cotmcil planned the schedule for each Friday afternoon schedule. Council members visited other schools and also arranged for Cole- man High School students to appear on Teen Time on WBAY T, V, K, I ' Q. The Cougars and the Wildcats gave their fans many thrills right up to the end of the game which at that time sported a tie of 0-O. On Thursday evening, preceeding the big game, a bon fire was held. A pep rally and selections by the band put the crowd in a good football spirit. On Friday a half hour before game time, the traditional parade was held. Many eye-catching floats were submitted by the classes and clubs. The Queen and the candidates provided for a pleasing spectacle as they rode in a convertible, clad in pretty pastel formals. The band was at their best, as they played several cheerfulselections. The crowd was large, and many of the alumni washome for this importantand en- joyable activity. Friday evening climaxed the festivities with a dance, music was by Clarence Marten'sOrchestra. Sharon Lesperance, Sophomore candi- date was chosen queen by the football squad. Serving as her court, were Marge Meyer, Senior, Betty Prochaska, Juniorg and Carol Bader, Fresh- man candidate. Sharon was crowned and presented with a trophy that evening by the football captains. Coach John S1aney's JV football squad, composed only of freshmen and sophomores was held to a G-6 draw by the CrivitzJV's in their opening contest but went on to win three in a row and finish the season undefeated. The Cougar Kittens dropped Gillett 2-0 on a safety by Roger Pillath, downed Peshtigo 12-7 on a brace of touchdown runs by Jerry Patz, and shaded Lena 7-G. More important, though, than the wins was the fact Coach Slaney used over the course of the season his entire bench, so that every boy out for football had at least one chance to experience the thrill of competing in a game. Though Coach S1aney's basketball squad finished the season with a considerably less im- pressive 5-11 record, here again only first and second year boys were used, many of the players being freshmen, and as often as not in competition with much larger, older boys. Everything considered, our JV's more than held their own. In the years to come, this kind of experience will pay off. Good work, John. FIRST ROW, Left to Right: J, Skarda, A.
