MARTHA VEAZEY - Editor MARY BETH PARKS - Co-Editor This year was basically the same as any high school year; we studied - had fun, experienced sad moments of trial and error. There were games and dances; voices were hoarse from Pep Squad rooting and singing. There were brief moments of glory for some of us in sports and dramatic productions. All shared the hopeless reality of examinations and deadlines, the semester grades, the noontime lunch room rush. These impressions arc only a few that were packed into this full year. Credit for the production of this book goes to the loyal Panther Staff. The Staff, however, has furnished only the outlines of the story that we find when we turn these pages filled with warm smiles of friendship and many happy recollections. The rest is up to the individual. Underclassmen who return to CHS in the fall will continue to keep up the high standards of the school and strive for improvement. Graduates will go their separate ways using the knowledge they have gained here to reach their successes. It is not today that you will appreciate the PANTHER. Tomorrow, when it is not so easy to think back on 1964, we will treasure the memories this book has stored for us. The following statement will always hold true: 'Tis pleasant, sure, to see one’s name in print' Martha Veazey, Editor

7 rc tctfi xC'4, A recent study of our former graduates reveals that almost three-fourths of those who graduated last May are enrolled in some formal program of higher education. This, of course, is a higher percentage than was the case five years ago. There is evidence that the percentage will continue to increase. This situation is not peculiar to Coldwater School but is a part of the national picture. It shows that in the competition for important jobs, special education qualifications are becoming more necessary. During the last few years we have been working toward a program for each pupil that will adequately challenge his ability. Courses ordinarily taught in the upper high school grades are being taught in the lower grades in order that our students may have the opportunity to take more courses in the fields of their greatest interest and ability. Along with this has been an attempt to improve the content of the individual courses and give every encouragement to those who seek enrichment in areas of special interest. The Class of 1964 has had the opportunity to take advantage of part of this steppcd-up program. That this new program is progressing nicely has been evidenced in the improved attitude toward school, fellow students, teachers, and matters of personal appearance. I want to extend my best wishes to all those who are looking forward to further education. I also want to commend those who have availed themselves of opportunities afforded here at Coldwater High School for job preparation. They, too, in many instances will seek further education, both in work experience and part-time instruction. I hope that these years at Coldwater School have brought each of the members of the Class of 1964 to a realization of the fact that education is a never-ending ana enjoyable way of llle.
