J and dedlcate thxs an authentlc hlstory to our submlsslve lf successors who expect sometlme ln the dlstant future to X Jeux, occupy our exalted pos1t1on X V li It was lndeed the begxnnlng of a great epoch ln the hlstorv of our natlon on a September day nearly four years ago when twenty abashed green looklng youngsters entered for the first tlme the un famlllar portals of the Coldwater Hlgh School As Freshmen we were at first somewhat trampled upon but soon rose to our feet and made the upper classmen take notlce of the unheard of authorxty establlshed ox er them wh1ch put us truly ln a class by ourselves Durlng the second month of school a pltched battle took place on the campus the upper classmen all agalnst us For twenty mlnutes the fierce confllct was wltnes ed by the horr1f1ed faculty untll at last those who were supposed to have reached Sophor1ty and Sen1or1ty lay prostrate on the ground and the supposed Green Ones came out the vlctors of the day The next year our class wlth the exceptlon of one member returned wrth eager ant1c1pat1on to enter upon our l1fe as Sophomores As our good luck would have lt a new member Jomed our class to till the place left vacant thus keeplng our membershlp up to the score mark No longer were We Freshres or Inslgnlficent Ones for so brave and fearless d1d We appear that no other class dared make mentlon of anythmg pertalnmg to scraps Th1s was lll truth a year of growth and progress for all worked so lndus trlously that each and every one mounted one more round ln the ladder of knowledge and finlshed the years work well prepared to contlnue our Sflldlf the next fall ln the autumn of 1913 when we commenced our thlrd year ln the Loldw rter lllgh Sthool our membershlp was sllghtly d1m1n1shed one havlng del arted and three havxng advanced to the Senlor Class Not many days h ld elapsed when one mornmg the Senlors and Freshmen awoke only to b hold the splendol of the Cherry and Gold four colorsl floatmg trlumphantly over the Clfy water tower That was the beglnnlng Then followed many days of tumult and struggle untrl a decree was lssued bv the Faculty for the lestoratmon ot peace After a gloxu us x 14 dtlOI1 we reentered the ranks of Hlgh School for the fourth tlme As m our Freshman year a score were present four stu S l - x v 1 ' ' ' ,Q y , . 2' , . ' A ., ... sa V.. 1,-a 711 fleriff-'Q 7' xml N.-'-'-I NmeteenFU'teen THE scoRE DOMESTIC SCIENCE OMESTIC Scxence was introduced 1nto the Coldwater High School currlculum ln the fall of 1912 under the SLIDPFVISIOD of Miss Lllla Farmer The southeast room on the second floor of the school bulld mg was equlpped as a laboratory with tables utensils a cupboard a sink and 1nd1v1dual stoves for a class of twelve girls Two classes of g1rls took the course which included both cooking and sewmg and a thlrd class made up of some of the ladies of the town took the cooking Durlng the year the classes showed their interest IH extendmg the new work by maklng candy for a candy sale and giving a food sale the proceeds of whlch were used 1n furnishing the l1ttle sewmg room with a table rug and curtalns for the windows They also served coffee and bus cults at a stove demonstratlon given by a local hardware firm In the fall of 1913 there was a class of ten g1rls enrolled ln the Domestlc Sclence course takmg the first year work there being no advanced class owlng to the arrangement of the High School course MISS Farmer was succeeded by MISS Ruth E Allen who taught the following two years Besides the regular work durmg the year the class served a luncheon at a Joint meeting of the Clark and Comanche County Teachers Assocla tions and a dlnner to the members of the Board of Educ 1t1on A display for the public was made in the Domestlc Art department one afternoon durmg which punch and and sandwlches were served The Domestlc Sclence work was extended IU 1914 lnto the fifth slxth seventh and eighth grades thus enablmg the girls to get a more complete course Fifty five glrls were enrolled ln the Grade Sevvmg Classes and twenty 1n the two High School Classes maklng a total of seventy five girls taklng the course in Domestic Science the past year An exhibit of the work of all the classes was shown durmg Com mencement Week The south room in the basement of the new southwest Cottage School Bu1ld1ng IS now the Domestlc Science laboratory and the room just above on the first floor is the sewmg room thus making It possible to accommo date the large number who are takmg the courses Th ty ght , , 9 9 l 7 ' v v v s , u x ' Y v ' y . .
