FORMER CLASS OF 56 HOLDS REUNION ABOARD LUXURIOUS YACHT ON LAKE MICHIGAN On May 25 1971 whrle I was attcndrng a week end conventron rn Chrcago I drscovered that the former Coldwater class of 56 was to hold a reunron on the yacht of Admrral Tom Klosterman Tom rs crursrng on Lake Mrchrgan for a short rest untrl he rs to resume hrs dutres agarn rn the U S Navy QBy the way you may wonder how I got here I was rnvrted as a specral guest srnce I am from the old hometown J Whrle drnrng we lrstened to the strarns of Jrmmy Dorsey and hrs Orchestra whrch featured Karl Fronrng as frrst trombonrst After the delrghtful banquet everyone wanted to know who had prepared such a delrcrous meal It was none other than chref cook and bottle washer Jerry Mescher also on leave from the U S Navy The former Ann Jackson now happrly marrred to Charles Fronrng suggested everyone drrnk a toastfmrlk naturally smce she rs a dental assrstantj Charlre rs a successful busrness man who sells new Jet o matrc convertrbles After the toast everyone renewed old frrendshrps by dancrng or srttrng under the stars I began my evenrng by dancrng wrth Marlerse Albers who rs now one of New York s leadrng Parr Models From her I learned that the nat1on s two top rnterror decorators Jams Desch from New York and Roberta Puthoff from Hollywood had just flown rn On my way to see them I ran rnto Mr and Mrs Jrm Gerse Qformerly Lucrlle Hernj Jrm a barber and Lucy a beautrcran own the Beauty for Stars Shoppe rn Hollywood Workrng tor them as manrcurrsts are Barbara Schoenlrne and Janet Hertkamp Seated across from them were Phrl Buschor Mcchamc Dennrs Yaney salesman and Jrm Waltman car washer who had recently formed the B Y W Garage Inc Durrng the conversatron I learned that Margre Plerman and Della Huber employed as arr lrne stewardesses for T W A were scheduled to leave on a flrght for South Amerrca On my way to say good bye to them I ran rnto Don Knapke a successful veternarran on the East Coast and Irm Rentz an upcomrng anrmal screntrst talkrng over old trmes Workrng for them as bookkeepers are Margorre Brrkmeyer and Connre I-loenrng respec trvely After I sard good bye to the stewardesses I went out on deck and leaned over the rarl Two nurses Barbara Smelser and Rrta Sutter not knowrng what was the matter came to my rescue Whrle restrng 1n a deck charr the two nurses rnformed me that Rosemary Bruggeman was head supervrsor of the new wrng at Mercy Hosprtal and Ann Duwelrng rs head surgrcal nurse at Good Samarrtan Hosprtal rn Dayton Wlule they were wanderrng by I overheard Don Braun now a promrnent draftsman drscussrng some new burldrng plans wrth Drck Muhlenkamp and Larry Gross both coast to coast truck drrvers Enterrng rnto thrs con versatron was Alv1n Alrg an rmplement desrgner and has four f1ne sons to keep her busy The former Edrth Brrcker rs also happrly marrred and has three lrttle grrls to keep her busy Patty Schoeppner a well establ1shed elementary teacher IS happ1ly marrred to a brg executrve rn Calrfornra and also owns a horse ranch on whrch Davrd Sertz rs manager By the way Barbara Wendel executrve secretary to Patty s husband Also rn Calrfornra rn the teach1ng professron 15 Eddre Knapke head coach at U C L A whrle Wrlfred Wolters IS head math professor at Ohro State Unrversrty Galen Noll rs rn Las Vegas and operates the famous nrte club Noll s Nook lou Ann Wendel Juanrta Muhlenkamp and MarJor1e Karafrt work as hrs personal assrstants The past semor class presrdent Luke Albers rs rn Washlngton D C as dlrector of the Unrted States government Ralph Swartz IS also rn Washrngton D C collaboratrng wrth hrgh offrcrals as to whether he wrll fly the f1ISI rocket to outer space Another member of the class resrdrng rn Washrngton rs Ronnre Schlndler who rs lrvrng n1cely off the royaltres of hrs latest rnventron the push button saver By the way resrdrng rn Coldwater are Lours Brrkmeyer and Dan Harrrs Lou1s rs foreman of the ll'l1X depart ment at Pet Mrlk and Dan rs a prosperous busrness man Also resrdrng rn Coldwater rs Irma Ungruhm who rs now a hrgh school teacher on the Coldwater staff Also learned that Pat Joyner rs now professor of chemrstry at Bowlrng Green Unrversrty and Mary Drller rs an elementary teacher rn Boston Massachusetts After chattrng wrth many people I wandered 1ns1de and saw that a few old class members were grvrng some entertarnment Bette Gross and Helen Homan gave a short slut from therr latest broadway hrt Two Lrttle Angels wntten by the famous New York playwrrte Sandra Katterhenry The famous tenor Earl Klosterman now w1th the Metropolrtan Opera sang for us, The hrghlrght of the evemng was a monologue done by Eugene Homan who has now replaced George Gobel on TV. 1 . x .
