And so ends onother chopter in our lives. We re oil o yeor older, o grode closer to graduation. Some of us ore '85 groduotes, eogerly looking forward to pursuing college or careers. We've oil grown, gradually. So gradually that, without recoiling those major influences during the post yeor, it seems, often, os though rime hos crept ot o snail's pace. But. stop. Remember when . . . . . . you started Kindergarten? . . . Washington. Franklin and Girard Elementary Schools were closed? . . . declining enrollment ond milloge failures resulted in academic cutbacks? .. . you graduated from middle school, ond become o high school freshman? . . . you were assigned your first locker. . . ond promptly forgot your combination? . . . you went on your first dote? . . . school took on added meaning, ocodemicolly ond athletically? . . . learning about the unrest in the world mode you better appreciate whot you hove? . . . you hod those down moments, when you thought you couldn't, ond o friend reminded you that you could ? . . . you heard about terrorism, assassinations, bombings, hijockings — ond wondered why? ? . . . your parents always seemed to think you were doomed to o life of immaturity, but tried to counteract it with that ever-helpful phrase. Why don't you grow up'? ? . . . you cheered so loud at the football gome, you were hoarse for days afterword? .. . you first realized that there is, indeed, life beyond high school? Yes. these memories take us bock. Bock to a time when life seemed calm, traumatic, tranquil, catastrophic, wonderful, awful, hap- py. sad. It's over, yet it continues.
