And so ends onother chopter in our lives. We re oil o yeor older, o grode closer to graduation. Some of us ore '85 groduotes, eogerly looking forward to pursuing college or careers. We've oil grown, gradually. So gradually that, without recoiling those major influences during the post yeor, it seems, often, os though rime hos crept ot o snail's pace. But. stop. Remember when . . . . . . you started Kindergarten? . . . Washington. Franklin and Girard Elementary Schools were closed? . . . declining enrollment ond milloge failures resulted in academic cutbacks? .. . you graduated from middle school, ond become o high school freshman? . . . you were assigned your first locker. . . ond promptly forgot your combination? . . . you went on your first dote? . . . school took on added meaning, ocodemicolly ond athletically? . . . learning about the unrest in the world mode you better appreciate whot you hove? . . . you hod those down moments, when you thought you couldn't, ond o friend reminded you that you could ? . . . you heard about terrorism, assassinations, bombings, hijockings — ond wondered why? ? . . . your parents always seemed to think you were doomed to o life of immaturity, but tried to counteract it with that ever-helpful phrase. Why don't you grow up'? ? . . . you cheered so loud at the football gome, you were hoarse for days afterword? .. . you first realized that there is, indeed, life beyond high school? Yes. these memories take us bock. Bock to a time when life seemed calm, traumatic, tranquil, catastrophic, wonderful, awful, hap- py. sad. It's over, yet it continues. Whot you were hos influenced what you ore. Some memories ore sweet, some bittersweet. Continue to grow. To recollect. To try, To be. Sift through your memories. Don't rest on your laurels. Give oil you hove. And then, give some more. In the yeor 2005 — 20 years from now — you will be in your 30's. You will be that Older Generation. You will hove children in school, laughing, crying, remembering when. You will be attending your 20th CHS Reunion, going more out of curiosity than anything else. Those of you who hove tried, will be the leoders in your community. Don't ever forget: your future depends upon your past. As CARDINAL yearbook advisor for the past five years, I, too, have many memories. Of deadlines. Of finances. Of cropping. Of photos. Of layouts. Of staff members. This 1965 CARDINAL is my final book or CHS. The duties of odvisor will belong to someone else in '86, but the sweet memories I hove will continue on, od infinitum. Several '65 CARDINAL Staffers mode this a special year for me. Renee Sielken, Editor, has spent three years working on CARDINAL yearbooks, ond, with this one, has really outdone herself. Working with Renee has been a special experience for me; her friendship something I will cherish. Joe Massey, finishing his second CARDINAL, has brought o delight to the sometimes-mundone job of layout. Cheryl Ernsberger managed our finances, spent two years of hard work on yearbooks, ond showed o maturity seldom seen in sophomores. Pom Gorman stood out as a consistent hard worker, ond took on major responsibility near the end of the yeor, by laying out the Sports section, with Kristy Bytwerk ond Robin Worst. Heidi Scott prepared each division page, ond was responsible for major undertakings, among them the dedication, memorial ond Year in Review Table of Contents. Other staff members ployed on In- tegral part in my job, ond our '85 CARDINAL. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to each of them, for making my job so rewarding. I wish all past ond future CARDINAL Staff members the best of luck, ond will be awaiting the '86 CARDINAL with great anticipation! Other contributors to our '85 CARDINAL were: Lisa Dules ond Laurie Corless, high school secretaries; Dee Shiery, without whom there would be no CARDINAL yearbook (nor would there be Coldwater High School!); Craig Gunn, for his photography, ond for allowing us to use much of his work; Ann Bowernnon, for use of the Medio Center as our staff workplace.- Linda Todd, for use of two of her home ec ovens ( sorry you missed the Cascorelli's pizzas we baked during our final staff work session In June!); the Coldwater DAILY REPORTER, for photos,- Ston Clayton of Classic Portraits by Stan Clayton, for Senior portraiture ond yearbook photography,- area mer- - chants, for your advertising support of the '85 CARDINAL; students ond foculty of CHS, for your support of our book; Lee Zimmerman and Taylor Publishing Company,- 1985 CARDINAL Staff Members, for your dedication ond uncompromising values in preparing a dignified history of the '84-'85 school yeor. Our acknowledgement of these individuals for their help ond support is sincere, ond has mode the difference in the preparation of this yearbook. — Dione M.
