'4Coldwater's first high school began classes on Monday, February 3, 1862. There were three teachers listed as the first faculty. A Trofessor' Gibson was principal. Miss Pruden was the Preceptress. Mr. I. H. McGowan was the third teaching member. The entire country was in the War Between the States and over 500 young men from Coldwater were marching away to the colors. Principal Gibson left in the middle of the first year that the new building was in operation. Most of the students remaining were girls. The first graduating class, with three seniors, was granted diplomas in 1868.
