On the pages of this book are a few of the buildings and scenes which complete the life of the com- munity in which this high school is located. Coldwater dates back well over 100 years, with the new high school being completed for occupancy exactly T04 years after the first secondary school was built in the city. The Coldwater State Home and Training School shown here has been located in the area for many years and is one of the better staffed and equipped schools in the state. The court house, fire station and city hall are all important in the conducting of all legislative, business and protective divisions of the community. They are good examples of the close cooperation which each individual part exerts. Seventy years ago excursion boats made trips up and down the Coldwater River from Pilot Knob to the city for the benefit of the people's amusement. Today it carries only the small boat traffic of fishermen and pleasure seekers. Athletics in Coldwater High School were held for years at the Waterworks Park fields. Football and track events are now held at Cardinal Field opposite the high school, and this will be the last year for the team to use the Waterworks baseball diamond because there will be two playing fields available next year near the football stadium. The hospital plays an important part in keeping the citizens healthy and bringing into the world new people for Cardinal Land. It also helps them in time of sickness and accident. Federal-Mogul gives work to many people. It is one of the larger industries that makes the community able to take its place in Cardi- nal Land. Some other places of employment in Coldwater are the Quality Spring Com- pany, Gamble-Skogmo, and Midwest Foundry. The Main theatre, the center of entertain- ment in Coldwater. The movie theater takes people out of their work-a-day world into the land of make-believe. Through the books at the public library many people are also able to leave the every- day world. The books and magazines in the library are free to anyone who enioys re- search work and reading. The homes are the places where Cardinal Land really begins. It is out of these homes that come the people to make up the staffs of the hospital, library, the Federal-Mogul, and the people that supply the personnel to run the theatre. The residents of the com- munity, and ultimately Cardinal Land, are the products of these homes. As the present generations learn and ma- ture in high school, they begin to get the foundations of good citizenship to take their places among other members of the com- mununity.
