But it's fun to reminisce and try to remember some of the funny things we did 'way back then! In 1938, as green seventh graders, We en- tered Junior High with a very lost feeling. Here we were in an entirely different building with a lot of strange people fthe faculty?'?j. Polly Walker used an unusual procedure to make her debut. She fell flat on her face on the platform in the study hall, afterward realizing that there WERE steps up to the desk -A we elected class officers: President, Duane Papkeg Vice-President, Joann Hilbert: Secretaryffreas- urer, Patsy Kibbe - Flat Foot Fl00gie dom- inated the musical world in '38, '39-a few made the gossip columns, and items such as the fol- lowing appeared in the Mirror : Doris Linton is wondering if E. Zinn will ever give her a tumble f Weedy went with Patty Carlsj - Marge A. seems to be growing up a bit too fast. You had better go on a diet --- Brownie H. has changed her mind about Robert Brayton. What can the matter be? - Wanda Barth- olmew and Ethlyn Palmatier are after Dick As- bury - Polly Walker is torn between two flames. One flame is Duane Papke, and the other one is Russell Alexander . So on to the eighth grade. We began to relax and make ourselves at home V- we even became so daring as to venture into HARRY'S, or peep in on the dances at the Parish House, where Pork Morgan's band Ubanged it out every Saturday night - making pins out of macaroni was all the rage - The Mirror dirt columns ran thus: ln the eighth grade a few fContinued on Page 521 16
