All duchesses were announced prior to the homecoming festivities, but the onnouncement of queen was kept secret until the event begon. They hosted the annual Christmas dance and took a spring break trip this year to Cozumel. The club had forty-three members with five officers. Each meeting consisted of a great deal of Spanish speaking, singing, and numerous other things. The members who went to Cozumel spent four days and three nights in the luxurious Plaza Azul. Everyone had a wonderful time and brought back many memories and some sunburns. The food was reported not real great, but everyone survived - even Senora. Many people know they want to educate our youth, but don't fully un- derstand the field. T.A.F.E. seeks to emphasize career goals, and encourage the - .11 leadership qualities need- ed for the demanding re- sponsibility of being an educator. To cultivate these qual- ities, members attend seminars, hear guest speakers, and demon- strate responsibility through their grades. However, some fun is in- volved! Meetings are peppered with friendly conversation and opin- ions are expressed. At the present, a picnic for the T.A.F.E. members is being planned. Scholarship recipients are honored and individual awards were given by teachers to outstanding students in their courses during the year. Only the scholarship recipients are pictured, but the individual awards meant o great deol to each. Rhonda Morrison was named Valedictorian of her class. For this honor she received her tuition for her first year in a university of her choice from the State of Texas, Rhonda was also the recipient of the Go-Texan Scholarship of 5750. After applying for the Josten's Scholarship, it was announced that she was among the top 500 finalists from among 28,800 applicants. Tabatha Dolney received the honor of being Salutatorian of her class, Scholarships she received the Band Boosters for 5500, the P.T.A. Scholarship in the amount of 5150, and the Semper's Fidelis Award from the U.S. Marine Corps. s BILLIE JO MIZELL Billie Jo Mizell, third ranking student, re- ceived the San Jacinto Women's League Scholarship in the amount of 5500, Julie Cox was named as the class's fourth ranking student this year, She was the re- cipient of a Go-Texan Scholarship for S750 and the Waterwood Women's League Scholarship in the amount of 51000. J Kyle A Coldspring Tennis Team Nerve racking seemed to be a popular feel- ing for Coach Downey and his tennis team during the '66 season lt took quite some time to get the players to go to practice, but eventually eve' ryone began to show up after school. Practices were held at Cape Royale located outside of Coldspring The team participated in one tour' noment held in Crockett. This tournoment lasted for two days. The second day began with quarter' finals in which two girls doubles advanced into this portion of the competition, Patricia Colquitt and teammate Lori Currie, Julie Cox and teammate www s 3 ali Amy Sewell. Coach Downey organized a match between Coldspring and many schools from the some district such as: Shepherd, Tarkington, and Montgomery. This match was held at Cape Roy- ale. Another match Coldspring attended was with Montgomery at Walden on Lake Conroe. After three matches and a little experience of the actual game, the Coldspring tennis team traveled to Walden for the district meet. Everyone played well, and once again the term nerve racking was used. Foot faults went uncalled and many cases of miscalled balls became the apparent defect for Coldspring. The realism of our final year started with our in- vitations to our Baccalaureate Service, lt was at the First Baptist Church on May 29. As is evident in the pictures, we were able to don those long sought after caps and gowns. As finals were finally over the fol- lowing week, the big day arrived. It began with the traditional senior breakfast in the cafeteria and then practice on the football field. It was hard to realize that we were here when it had seemed so far into the futurejust a short time ago. We all helped each other with the actual preparation for this big step. lt seems that every class leaves some mark on the ceremony that they are remembered for. Members of this group decided to tape messages on the top of their hats, That would give the audience something to do during the program - read, read read! After graduation, some of our parents wanted to give a party to help keep us from being on the roads, We really had a great time at our Project Graduation Party . We consumed at least 90 pounds of brisket and won prizes galore every hour of the entire night. The party ended with about 50 of us nightowls having breakfast together, There are pictures depicting the great, but long night. Billy Clyburn was the one who kept us all going!
